Role overview:

SIE is looking for a talented privacy lawyer to serve as our Senior Corporate Counsel, Privacy and drive privacy strategy and continue to grow our privacy programme in an international and market-leading video games, entertainment, and technology business. This role will work with the Senior Director, Global Privacy, and is essential to empowering the SIE business to deliver the best entertainment experience while mitigating privacy risks and earning trust by transparently and responsibly using data.

This role provides an opportunity to work on pioneering technologies such as interactive entertainment, content streaming, and virtual reality, and to counsel product teams as they launch and deliver products and services to over 100 million users worldwide.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Serve as a key domain expert on UK/EU GDPR privacy and data protection issues, including advising on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting data privacy and data security.
  • Manage a team of privacy legal experts advising the business across the EMEA region counselling on data protection laws (e.g. including UK/EU GDPR, the e-Privacy Directive and other adjacent privacy laws).
  • Provide leading support with the delivery of SIE Global Privacy programme across SIE business.
  • Partner with SIE business and other legal teams to proactively address privacy regulatory guidance and drive high impact privacy initiatives to shape our EMEA privacy strategy.
  • Support and advise key stakeholders on a broad range of complex privacy issues and provide pragmatic and risk-based solutions which enable an exceptional customer experience.
  • Support SIE incident response team in investigating and managing data security incidents and breaches of personal information, ensuring timely regulatory notifications and communications.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of privacy policies and internal guidelines.
  • Manage the effective delivery of SIE internal awareness training programme across EMEA region.
  • Advise on privacy public policy and legislative developments, working with and influencing privacy regulators and policymakers.
  • Assist other legal teams in reviewing and negotiating privacy terms in commercial contracts.
  • Lead innovative privacy projects to help SIE scale, including by developing standardised policies, tools, processes and training for the Legal team and the business.

What we are looking for:

  • A qualified lawyer with 12+ years’ post-qualified legal experience.
  • In-depth experience with European and UK privacy law.
  • International experience of developing and implementing a privacy compliance programme.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Product counselling experience preferably with respect to IP, privacy or technology.
  • International experience of developing and implementing a privacy compliance programme..
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience of developing data protection policies framework.
  • The ability to identify and analyse legal issues quickly and accurately in ambiguous environments and to develop creative, scalable, and customer-friendly solutions by exercising excellent judgement.
  • The desire to develop trusted relationships internally and to work in a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Capability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
  • A keen business sense, and a sense of humour.
  • In-house experience is a plus.
  • Privacy certification preferred (such as CIPP/E or other similar data protection certifications).
  • Experience in product counselling, the entertainment industry and/or with technology and video games is a plus.
