We’re creating truly flexible products that meet people’s real needs. Using lightning-fast technology to unlock better experiences and fairer prices for our customers, Cuvva is building the future of insurance every day.

Cuvva was the first to sell hourly insurance to borrow a car through an app in the UK back in 2016. And we haven’t stopped innovating since. We’ve sold nearly 12 million policies, and supported over 1 million drivers and we’re just getting started. We’re a world-class team of 100 people, passionate about solving our customers’ problems. Join us. 🚀

Our Product teams

At Cuvva, Product Engineering is made up of cross-functional squads, each with full ownership over an area of the product or platform. These teams bring together Backend, Fullstack, iOS, Android, Product Managers, Designers, and Data Engineers & Analysts  to work autonomously, make decisions quickly, and build impactful, reliable, user-centred products. We’ll be looking for you as our new Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Platform
team to start off with.

  • Platform - Owners of the technical foundations that drive the business. The Platform team enables other teams within the business to move faster, reduce costs and succeed. Tackling some of the most complex challenges for the business, the Platform team maintains stability, whilst driving profit growth through automation.
  • Core - Dedicated to growing our market-leading short-term car insurance product, driving over £6 million in monthly sales. As a cross-functional team, we focus on enhancing the user experience by deeply understanding customer needs, introducing new products and features to solve their problems, whilst continually optimising all aspects of the funnel.
  • New Ventures  - Operating as Cuvva’s internal incubator, New Ventures explores high-potental opportunities that could  become significant growth drivers for our business. New Ventures is designed to look further ahead, balancing discovery and delivery while taking calculated risks on ideas that could transform our business.

At Cuvva, Engineers at Cuvva come from a variety of backgrounds and have different but complementary skill sets for ultimate collaboration. Within Engineering, you’re not required to have a degree, many of us are self-taught.

Our 2025 Engineering Strategy:

We’re not just here to write code – we’re here to redefine how insurance works. Our 2025 engineering strategy is built on five principles:

  1. AI-first: We’re investing in automation and building AI-powered features to serve customers better and faster
  2. Proactive mindset: We take initiative, spot problems early, and act fast
  3. Data-driven decisions: Hypotheses are tested. Gut feel isn’t good enough
  4. Pareto principle: Get 80% of the value with 20% of the effort – polish only when it matters
  5. Testing-first mindset: Stability matters. We test, we ship, we learn

Our Tech Stack:

Our cloud infrastructure is built on AWS and leverages a range of fully managed services to reduce operational overhead. We heavily use Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and focus on automation to simplify and accelerate deployment processes. Our services are primarily written in Golang or Node JS and are containerised with Docker for ease of deployment and scalability.

Key services we use include EKS, Lambda, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Route 53, SQS, SNS, Elasticache, RDS, MongoDB Atlas, Redshift, DMS, EventBridge, and AWS Elasticsearch. We also leverage Redis for caching and have a growing use of PostgreSQL.

We’re committed to using serverless architecture wherever possible and encourage using managed services to reduce the burden of system maintenance. Our team continuously strives to stay ahead of the curve, incorporating the latest cloud technologies and practices to ensure the performance, reliability, and security of our infrastructure.

About the role:

As a Senior Cloud Engineer at Cuvva, you will play a key role in scaling and optimising our cloud infrastructure to support the rapid growth of our products. You’ll be the go-to expert for AWS, leading initiatives that enhance the performance, security, and reliability of our systems. Your hands-on expertise in AWS services and Infrastructure as Code will be critical in maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure, ensuring it remains scalable and cost-effective as we grow.

You’ll work closely with a collaborative team of engineers, taking a driving role in bringing forward key technical initiatives, planning sprints, and breaking down large tasks into actionable epics.

Your proactive communication and ability to bring people together will be essential as you coordinate and collaborate across multiple teams. You’ll be a hands-on leader, balancing strategic thinking with the need for rapid execution, while maintaining an energetic, positive attitude that drives results.

In this role, your focus will be on empowering other engineers through proactive coaching, clear guidance, efficient processes, and continuous improvements to our DevOps practices. You’ll also take ownership of maintaining and evolving our CI/CD pipelines, ensuring we build, test, and deploy faster with confidence. Your understanding of the 80/20 mentality will guide you to deliver the most impactful solutions with minimal effort, driving efficiency across the board.

On a day-to-day basis you’ll:

  • Lead and maintain AWS infrastructure, managing services such as EKS, Lambda, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Route 53, and more.
  • Champion the use of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform to automate and scale the cloud infrastructure.
  • Take the lead in planning and coordinating technical initiatives, breaking down large tasks into achievable epics and sprint goals.
  • Collaborate across teams, ensuring smooth execution of cloud initiatives by gathering people together, aligning priorities, and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks in our infrastructure, ensuring our systems are always scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient.
  • Work hands-on with CI/CD tools to ensure smooth, fast, and reliable deployments, minimising downtime and risk.
  • Take ownership of monitoring and alerting, continuously improving observability within our cloud infrastructure.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, mentoring engineers and ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Lead the charge on keeping our cloud infrastructure secure, ensuring compliance and implementing security best practices across the stack.

You’ll do great here if you have:

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EKS, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong expertise with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, enabling scalable and efficient infrastructure management.
  • Experience in CI/CD tooling and DevOps practices, ensuring smooth and automated delivery pipelines.
  • A leadership mentality, with the ability to create plans, define epics, and lead teams to successful execution of technical initiatives.
  • Proactive and transparent communication, with the ability to rally teams around common goals and keep everyone aligned.
  • An energetic, positive, and proactive attitude, with the ability to act quickly and drive change in a fast-paced environment.
  • (Nice to have) Coding experience with Go, enabling you to collaborate with developers and contribute to codebase improvements.
  • A mindset aligned with our AI-first strategy, where we are building AI-powered features to improve customer experiences and accelerate our product offerings.
  • A focus on data-driven decisions, constantly testing hypotheses and using data to inform the direction of your work. Gut feel is never enough; every solution is built on evidence.
  • A practical approach to engineering, applying the Pareto principle by focusing on delivering 80% of the value with 20% of the effort and ensuring you only polish solutions when it truly matters.
  • A testing-first mindset, prioritising stability and reliability. You understand that testing, shipping, and learning are the foundations of our approach to continuous improvement.

  • Initial chat with Engineering Manager (60m)
  • Technical interview & live challenge with Squad peers (90m)
