Because a role here isn’t just another job; it’s a career-defining opportunity to build the future of fintech.

Job Description

Global payments are complex and ever-evolving. At Checkout.com, our Cloud Engineers build the resilient, scalable, and secure foundations that enable our Merchants to boost their acceptance rates, cut processing costs, and fight fraud. We are looking for Senior Cloud Engineers to lead the evolution of our Azure ecosystem, ensuring our infrastructure is as high-performing and reliable as the code it supports.

We’re looking for Senior Engineers who are not just technical specialists, but natural leaders. You bring a wealth of experience in Azure architecture, a deep passion for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and the ability to operate independently to deliver high-impact services. You will be a cornerstone of your Atom (our modular team structure), translating complex business requirements into technical designs while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you are responsible for the technical delivery of your atom’s services. You will work closely with your Engineering Manager to shape the direction, managing dependencies across different pillars and ensuring our systems - from event-driven microservices to global networking - adhere to the highest standards of the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and the Well-Architected Framework.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience & Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in a dedicated Azure Cloud Engineering or DevOps role.

  • Deep Azure Expertise: Advanced proficiency in designing and managing production-grade services including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Service Bus, CosmosDB, and Azure Functions. You should have a proven track record of delivering scalable, multi-region architectures.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) at Scale: Expert-level knowledge of Terraform. You don't just write code; you design reusable modules, advocate for best practices, and ensure state management is secure and efficient.

  • Advanced Networking & Security: A complete understanding of enterprise networking, including Hub-and-Spoke VNet patterns, Azure Front Door (WAF), Private Link for zero-trust environments, and advanced identity management via Microsoft Entra ID (RBAC) and Managed Identities.

  • Engineering Excellence: Strong experience with CI/CD orchestration (e.g., GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) and a focus on observability (e.g., Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Prometheus/Grafana).

  • Leadership & Mentorship: A natural ability to guide and mentor peers. You have experience resolving technical issues and can translate ambiguous problem definitions into actionable technical roadmaps.

  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: You understand when to move fast (creating tech debt) and when to move right (paying it off). You are a cornerstone in incident resolution and root-cause analysis.

  • Data-Driven Mindset: You use analytical approaches to identify inefficiencies and demonstrate the impact of your technical initiatives on the wider group.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead Design & Delivery: Take full ownership of the design and implementation of large-scale, critical cloud projects, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and cost-optimised.

  • Architectural Influence: Work with Engineering Managers to refine requirements and influence the technical direction of your Atom and the broader group.

  • Operational SME: Act as the Subject Matter Expert for numerous team-owned services, providing advanced operational support and ensuring high availability for our global payment systems.

  • Evangelize Best Practices: Produce exemplary code and documentation that inspires others. You will be responsible for spreading best practices and standards across your group.

  • Manage Dependencies: Navigate the organization to manage technical dependencies inside and outside your pillar, optimizing for both delivery speed and business outcomes.

  • Foster Culture: Embody Checkout Operating Principles, using them to shape the group’s culture and acting as an example of efficiency and professional excellence.

  • AI Integration: Proactively explore and implement AI-driven automation to enhance infrastructure efficiency and team productivity.
