About This Role
As an experienced leader, you'll spearhead the global expansion and commercial growth of our index services business, which leverages the breadth of our infrastructure to calculate indexes for a range of market participants. Our clients include asset managers, equity and derivative exchanges, investment banks and others all seeking to bring their intellectual property to market by entrusting the calculation and maintenance to a full-service index provider, leaving the clients free to focus on the promotion and commercialization of their creations.
This role requires a strategic commercial thinker with a proven track record in revenue generation and product management within the index/passive investing industry. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a wealth of industry knowledge, a deep book of contacts and an understanding of index calculation methodologies, trends and use cases.
What You'll Do
Business Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy for the white-labelled index services business line, including defining and targeting client segments, developing a product/functionality roadmap, and refining the unique value proposition available only from Morningstar.
Revenue Generation: Drive revenue growth through the acquisition of new clients, expansion of existing relationships and the refinement of existing commercial policies.
Functionality Development: Working with other stakeholders, prescribe and lead the development of innovative index calculation and distribution methodologies necessary to maintain and attract clients, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Client Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients across the spectrum of users, understanding their needs and requirements, and providing tailored solutions and support.
Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes, providing insights and recommendations to optimize business performance.
Functional Partnerships: Work with internal stakeholders including sales, strategy, technology, operations, product management and client services, ensure than Morningstar Indexes becomes a leading provider of index calculation services.
Strategic Partnerships: Identify and connect with external stakeholders that can help to enhance the business's capabilities and offerings and, ultimately, revenue generation.
Who You Are

  • Proven experience (10-15 years) in senior roles with a focus on index calculation services, either in product management, sales/business development, operations/technology
  • Candidates should be equipped with knowledge of potential client firms and contacts; familiarity with the offerings of index competitors
  • Strong understanding of index calculation methodologies, index use cases (e.g. investable products, benchmarking, etc.) equity, fixed income and derivative markets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in revenue generation and client management within the index/passive investing/asset management industry.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or related field; post graduate degree(s) or CFA highly beneficial
