Description

Senior Business Development Manager - Infrastructure

Location: Remote (UK based) – 1Spatial HQ is in Cambridge

Full Time Permanent

Salary: £70,000+

Introduction: A unique approach for uniquely talented people

Below you will read a job description that looks like 85% of other similar job descriptions. However, we want to be different and stand out in the market because a generic job description won’t enable you to find the next challenge that’s right for your career progression, and with the best cultural fit.

We’re looking for talented senior business development professionals who are striving to excel but understand it’s a journey and are committed to that journey. This includes taking the initiative, not afraid of making mistakes but owning them and learning from them, having a certain spark of creativity to make things happen, delivering against targets, with the ability to build genuine and trusted relationships with colleagues and customers alike.

It's a big ask to have all that in one person but you’ll notice that our definition of excellence is about the right attitude and approach aligned to ambition and integrity. That will trump professional/technical knowledge which can grow through learning and development. The business development team are also well supported by geospatial data experts within 1Spatial who are already highly respected in this sector.

As a company that’s been in business for 40 years (one of the original spin-outs from the University of Cambridge) we’re already at a decent size, employing 300 people with operations in the UK, Europe, US and Australia, trading at a healthy profit and deploying our market-leading technology within critical national infrastructure projects across the public and private sector. Our customers and our employees are at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on trust and integrity.

We’re now looking to scale with serious growth ambitions - as a team of talented people we will make this happen and invite you to join us on that journey. The obligatory generic job description is below with all the buzzwords you might expect.

About the role

In this role, you will focus on Infrastructure customers in the UK & Ireland market, building relationships with clients and helping them find the right innovative solution to their challenges using a combination of our market-leading geospatial data management software (or 3rd party software where applicable) and professional services.

Your primary responsibility will be to engage with potential clients, understand their sector challenges and individual needs, and guide them through the process of selecting the right solution to solve that challenge. You’ll collaborate with internal teams to deliver offerings that create tangible value that we can articulate to business and technical leaders alike.

Requirements

You should be comfortable with the following approach and able to demonstrate, with examples, how you have previously shaped and won similar opportunities:

  • Consultative Selling: Use your strong consultative skills to understand the unique needs and challenges of clients, as articulated in business terminology. You will build trust by offering insights, asking the right questions, and creating solutions that truly meet their objectives.
  • Market Insight: Be well informed about industry trends and challenges. You should be aware of the evolving geospatial landscape, from data platforms to the use of AI-technology. You will use this knowledge to provide strategic recommendations to customers and contribute to our overall market strategy.
  • Client Engagement: Establish and nurture meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor to customers at all stages of the sales process. Your focus will be on creating a partnership built on understanding and mutual benefit.
  • Opportunity Identification: Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within your market segment, using a consultative approach to qualify leads and build a strong sales pipeline.
  • Active CRM Management: Use the CRM (Salesforce) to proactively manage opportunities through the sales pipeline with sales forecasting based on various pieces of information gathered from key individuals within multiple departments in the customer’s organisation.
  • Tailored Solutions: Work closely with our product and professional services teams to ensure that the solutions we provide are customised to fit the customer’s needs using either (or a combination of) 1Spatial software, 3rd party software, or professional services. Ensure a smooth transition from the sales process to project delivery.
  • Winning Proposals through Collaboration: You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure we are aligning our business development efforts with the broader goals of the organisation, always ensuring a seamless experience for customers. Whilst we expect any business development professional to be hugely competitive, you will need to be a team player with enough emotional intelligence to balance how to get the best out of the wider team to pull together and write a winning proposition for your customers.
Benefits

We are a global leader in geospatial data management and software solutions. We pride ourselves on our expertise, market-leading software, and trusted reputation of delivering excellence to customers on critical national infrastructure projects across multiple sectors from utilities, to transport, to the environment, to defence. We genuinely believe we make a difference in the world by helping organisations harness the power of location-based insights to drive smarter decision-making.
