Craft is the filter.

We're looking for someone who makes things that stop people — consistently, across formats, at a level that raises the bar for everyone around them.

Spare builds AI-powered technology for cities. More than 200 transit agencies rely on us, from small community services to some of the most complex operations in North America. The product is strong and the mission is real. We need the work that represents it to be just as good — across social, presentations, product storytelling, conferences, the website, and everything in between.

The person we hire will be known for their work. Not their process. Their work.

If your portfolio makes other designers stop scrolling, keep reading.

Our Spare HQ is in Vancouver - BC, but this position is open to remote work options across Canada.
If you're in Vancouver or interested in relocating to Vancouver, we'd expect you to regularly collaborate with the team, in person at our office.

What you'll do

Ship exceptional work, at volume
This is a high-volume role. You'll have many things moving at once across social, campaigns, sales material, events, video and web. You'll need to prioritise ruthlessly, plan realistically, and be straight with people about what's achievable and when. The quality bar doesn't move with the workload.

Lead with motion
Motion is core here, not an add-on. You'll concept and produce short-form animated content — product showcases, feature launches, social, conference visuals — that makes Spare's products feel alive. Sharp, considered animation that communicates clearly and looks exceptional. This capability will only grow in importance.

Make Spare unmissable at events
Conferences are where a large share of our audience meets us. You'll design booths and environmental graphics, event collateral and on-stand content — work that has to read from across a crowded floor and hold up in physical production. If you like seeing your work built at scale, there's a lot of it here.

Produce product storytelling that lands
Working closely with Marketing and Product, you'll create content that shows what Spare does in a way people feel — demo videos, feature highlights, campaign assets. Show, don't tell. Make it move.

Build systems that scale
You'll create template libraries and visual systems that let teams across Spare — Marketing, Sales, CS, Events — produce on-brand work independently. Quality at volume, without you as the bottleneck on everything.

Own the web presence visually
You'll maintain and evolve spare.com in Webflow, keeping it sharp and current as the company evolves.

What we're looking for

Exceptional visual craft — this is the filter.
Your portfolio should make this obvious immediately. Contemporary, considered, visually distinctive work across campaign, digital and motion formats. Work that looks like it belongs in 2026. If the craft isn't there on page one, we won't get to page two.

Motion and animation as a native capability.
Not something you're learning — something you lead with. You think in movement: how things enter, how they transition, how timing creates feeling. Fluent across motion tools, and you treat animation as a primary creative medium.

B2B experience at a tech company.
You've designed for considered purchases and technical products, for audiences who need to understand something before they'll trust it. Longer cycles, multiple stakeholders, substance alongside style. Beautiful consumer work alone won't tell us you can do this.

Range across formats without losing coherence.
Campaign, digital, motion, environmental, web — you can move between them and the quality holds.

A sharp, contemporary sensibility.
You know what's current and what's tired. You reference the right things. Your decisions feel considered and inevitable, not safe and generic.

Attention to detail that borders on obsessive.
You notice what other people walk past. Typography, spacing, hierarchy, colour relationships — these matter to you and it shows.

You manage your own workload well.
You size work accurately, flag risk early, and don't over-commit. In a role with this much moving through it, that's as important as the craft.

Tools: broad and current.
Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop), Figma, Webflow, AI design tools. You use what the work requires and you keep learning what's next.

Why Spare

We're building AI-powered technology that helps cities run better. More than 200 transit agencies around the world rely on us.

For a designer, the appeal is simple: the volume, range and visibility. You'll ship more great work here in a year than most designers ship in three — across motion, campaign, events and web — in front of an audience that genuinely depends on what we build. There's an established brand direction to work within and real appetite for the work to be better than it's been.

You'll work closely with Marketing and with our Director of Product Design, who cares a great deal about craft and will push you on it.
