Job Description

Title: Senior Associate, European Private Finance

Reports to: Director / Managing Director, Global Private Finance

Location: London (with travel to other European geographies as needed)

Team Overview

Barings Private Credit & Global Private Finance Division

Barings is a leading global asset management firm with over $481 billion AUM. Barings Private Credit includes middle-market corporate credit, private placement debt and infrastructure debt. With more than 50 years of credit experience, the team understands how to effectively invest in private debt instruments to evaluate and capture the additional yield potential of illiquid and less liquid credit-based investments.

Barings Private Finance is a Private Credit sub-team of over 100 dedicated investment professionals located in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific focused on providing investors access to direct lending opportunities up and down the capital structure in middle-market companies.

The team sources global direct lending investment opportunities across a spectrum of risk/return profiles: senior secured loans, second lien, unitranche, mezzanine debt, equity co-investments. Investment professionals directly originate and underwrite every deal they invest in and have the ability to create highly customised portfolios to meet investor needs.

Barings Private Finance in Europe & the UK

Barings has substantially grown its European private credit strategy. The European Private Finance team counts 40+ investment professionals in London covering the European markets. The UK is one of the key investment geographies.

Job Summary

With the current commitment to the UK and to strengthen the existing investment team in London, Barings is seeking to recruit an Associate / Senior Associate to assist in deploying capital into mid-market direct lending deals across a variety of industries.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Analysing new investment opportunities and typically evaluate companies, the markets in which they operate, and the risks related to arranging and investing in private debt securities
  • Assisting in preparation of credit papers and supporting the deal team’s presentation of a transaction to Investment Committee
  • Financial modelling of transactions including conducting appropriate sensitivity analysis
  • Manage and conduct performance analysis with monitoring responsibilities over certain portfolio companies in coordination with other team members
  • Participate in interactions with management teams, private equity sponsors, origination sources and other investment professionals
  • Support broader deal team around managing flow info with advisors/intermediaries and supporting certain elements of bid letters, term sheets and definite documents

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of corporate finance transaction experience in M&A, debt financing, leveraged finance or private debt
  • Undergraduate degree (preferably with a focus on Finance, Economics or related financial discipline) with a record of academic achievement
  • Experience underwriting, structuring and executing relevant transactions for financial sponsors and/or corporate clients
  • Solid technical skills and capable of assessing deal opportunities and participating in the transaction execution process
  • Rigorous, fast and reliable in execution with keen attention to detail
  • An investor mindset: open, mobile and mature in risk management
  • Passionate about investment – strong development potential and ambition
  • Good interpersonal skills a team player mindset
