About the Engineering Velocity team

Engineering at hx drives every breakthrough that transforms how insurers make billion-dollar decisions. Our Engineering Velocity team sits at the heart of this mission, ensuring our developers can build faster, ship smarter, and operate with confidence. We've pioneered AI integration across engineering workflows with tools like Codeium and Windsurf IDE, but we're just scratching the surface of what's possible.

As a Senior AI Engineer in the Engineering Velocity team, you'll architect and lead the next generation of AI-powered developer experiences across our entire engineering organisation. This isn't about implementing existing tools - you'll be defining the technical strategy for how AI transforms software development at hx, from revolutionary automation to completely reimagined developer workflows.

You'll work at the cutting edge with some of the industry's sharpest engineering minds, building systems that don't just improve individual productivity but fundamentally reshape how teams collaborate, ship, and scale. What you'll be doing
  • Architect AI-first development platforms that transform how engineers work, designing and delivering systems that automate complex workflows and measurably accelerate development velocity across all engineering teams.

  • Drive technical strategy and innovation for AI adoption across engineering, evaluating cutting-edge technologies, leading architectural decisions, and establishing the frameworks that guide company-wide AI integration.

  • Lead complex technical initiatives from conception to production, taking ownership of cross-team projects that require deep technical expertise and stakeholder management across multiple engineering domains.

  • Mentor and influence engineering culture around AI-first practices, running technical workshops, establishing best practices, and helping engineers at all levels integrate AI into their development workflows.

  • Pioneer novel AI applications in software development, researching emerging techniques, prototyping innovative solutions, and bringing breakthrough AI capabilities to production at enterprise scale.

  • Shape product direction through technical leadership, collaborating with Product and Engineering leadership to identify opportunities where AI can create competitive advantages and customer value.

What you'll need to have done
  • Architected and delivered production AI systems that demonstrably transformed developer productivity at scale, with hands-on experience leading technical initiatives across multiple engineering teams in high-growth environments.

  • Built cutting-edge AI/LLM applications with deep expertise in frameworks like PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, and modern AI/ML stacks, plus a track record of applying these technologies to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Led technical strategy and architecture for developer platforms or internal tooling, with experience in AWS, Terraform, CI/CD systems, and the cloud infrastructure that supports enterprise-scale development teams.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership by driving cross-functional projects, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring other engineers while delivering systems that teams actually adopt and rely on.

  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and pioneer new technical approaches, with evidence of taking ownership of undefined problems and delivering innovative solutions that create lasting impact.

  • Influenced senior stakeholders through clear technical communication, with experience translating complex AI concepts into business value and building consensus around technical direction across diverse teams.

Compensation

At hx, we're committed to salary transparency. You'll always have clarity on pay early in the process - our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations - and we're working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally.

Because we're building at the intersection of technology/SaaS and insurance, our roles don't always map neatly onto traditional benchmarks. Our approach is to design compensation that's competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make.
