The Sector Data team partners directly with senior investors across Citadel's fundamental equities platform to drive differentiated, alpha-generating insights. The Central Team supports this mission across sectors by executing well-scoped analytical requests and strengthening shared technical foundations.
In this early-career role, you will apply a strong computer science or engineering foundation to real investment questions. You will deliver analyses, data checks, tracker enhancements, and reusable tooling while gaining broad exposure to alternative data and world class investing. Through close partnership with desk-facing Sector Data Scientists and investors, you will build technical depth, sector knowledge, and commercial judgment for increasingly complex work.
What You'll Do:
  • Execute Investment Research: Deliver data cuts, refreshes, mappings, cohort analyses, seasonality work, and recurring data pulls.
  • Build and Extend Decision Tools: Create and maintain investor-facing trackers, dashboards, and workflows; add companies, products, geographies, KPIs, and views.
  • Analyze Alternative Data: Query, clean, transform, and analyze datasets using statistical and time-series methods.
  • Investigate Anomalies: Investigate anomalies, reconcile sources, monitor pipelines, maintain mappings, and document assumptions and limitations.
  • Strengthen the Shared Code Platform: Improve the quality, flexibility, testing, documentation, and reusability of common Python and SQL tooling.
  • Leverage AI and Automation: Use LLMs and Citadel's AI infrastructure to accelerate extraction, monitoring, and recurring research workflows.
  • Build Commercial Judgment: Partner with Sector Data Scientists and investors to understand context, communicate findings, and prioritize work with real alpha.

What We're Looking For:
  • Alpha-First Mindset: A passion for delivering value to investment teams by questioning the consensus and looking for informational advantages in data.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Early-Career Experience: Recent graduate or up to 2 years in software engineering, data science, or analytics.
  • Technical Foundations: Interest in building reliable, scalable analytical solutions and improving shared technical foundations.
  • Programming: Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; familiarity with version control, testing, and data pipelines.
  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to explore unfamiliar datasets, validate results, and identify commercial applications.
  • Passion for Financial Markets: Demonstrated interest in investing, companies, business models, or economic questions.
  • Curiosity and Learning Agility: Comfortable moving across sectors, incorporating feedback, and rapidly building domain knowledge.
  • Communication and Ownership: Clear communicator with strong attention to detail, dependable execution, and sound judgment.

What We Offer for You:
  • World-class data and AI infrastructure: The opportunity to work at the forefront of quantitative finance with access to the world's most comprehensive infrastructure for alternative data and AI.
  • Broad exposure and rapid learning: Apply alternative data across sectors and investment questions while learning from accomplished portfolio managers, analysts, engineers, and data scientists.
  • Structured career development: Build technical depth, sector expertise, and commercial instincts through mentorship, ownership of the shared code platform, and a pathway toward dedicated sector coverage.
  • Industry-leading benefits: Employees are eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive compensation program, as well as a wide array of benefit programs, such as medical and life insurance, retirement and tax-free savings plans, and access to other healthcare programs.

In accordance with applicable law, the base salary range for this role is $125,000 to $0.
In addition, the employee who fills this role will be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive compensation program, as well as a wide array of benefit programs, such as medical and life insurance, retirement and tax-free savings plans, and access to other healthcare programs.
