Marketing plays a critical role; driving the brand proposition and new business acquisition, making Hiscox UK stand out from our competitors, and ultimately driving profitable growth.  

Working with the Senior Marketing Manager, Search Engine Marketing , SEM Manager will help drive performance of the two central sources of new business in our Direct business; Organic and Paid Search. You will be joining a lean and award winning SEM team that have racked up 15 industry award nominations, including UK and Europe Search Award nominations, with 4 outright wins in the last three years.

As a curious and driven marketeer, you’re looking for a new challenge that builds on your career. You’ll have strong search engine marketing experience, and the ability to demonstrate agility and energy to meet deadlines and commercial targets. You will have either agency or client-side experience. Although this is a hybrid role, the SEM manager will be required to attend regular in-person meetings in London.   

You’ll bring the right experiences to be effective in:

  • The core disciplines of SEM and affiliate marketing including PPC and SEO campaign management
  • Overseeing and facilitating partner agency activity, and ensuring that our SEM investment and agency retainers deliver maximum ROI
  • Process-managing content workstreams and relentlessly driving change in line with our commercial priorities
  • Extracting actionable insights from data and producing concise and commercially-focused reporting
  • Articulating the role and importance of SEO and PPC in the larger marketing mix
  • Working collaboratively with a diverse set of stakeholders who might have differing interests and motivations. SEM Manager will work closely with our Web Content Manager, Senior User Experience Manager, Digital Insight Analyst, Communications Managers, Senior and Junior Underwriters among others

Your key responsibilities

  • Meticulous day to day management of SEM activity to ensure achievement of business targets:
    • PPC - with specific focus on day-to-day performance, reporting and cost management
    • SEO – with specific focus on SEO workstream planning and delivery
    • Affiliates – with specific focus on maintaining and growing existing footprint
    • Other online routes to market where applicable
  • Driving continuous improvement in process-driven workstreams
  • Managing agency project teams, and providing guidance and training to junior agency team members
  • Supporting regular forecasting and budget planning exercises
  • Supporting Senior Marketing Manager, SEM  and other marketing stakeholders in the management and development of website content, customer experiences and ongoing development of Hiscox UK websites
  • Keeping fully informed of latest developments in SEM marketing and attending relevant industry events, particularly in LLMs, Generative AI, First Party Data, and online tracking & attribution
  • Working with Senior Marketing Manager, SEM to ensure that all marketing activities are fully aligned with Hiscox compliance, conduct, consumer duty and privacy policies

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate would have worked in a similar role in a client-side or agency-side setting with proven experience in coordinating and delivering SEM campaigns.

  • Previous experience in Search Engine Marketing
  • Being a proud digital marketing professional with ambition to develop skills and career
  • Being a results-oriented self-starter who takes pride in owning projects, hitting deadlines and achieving targets. Enjoys working independently
  • Excellent process management and admin skills
  • Commercial/financial awareness
  • Excellent numeracy and digital analytics skills – comfortable with Excel, Looker Studio, Google Analytics 4, and knowledgeable in relevant channel-specific tools for SEO, PPC and affiliates such as Google Search Console, SA360 and AWIN
  • Marketing experience in a regulated industry such as finance is a plus
