SCUK Senior Strategic Business Development Manager

Santander Consumer Finance UK (SCUK) is based in Redhill, Surrey and provides motor finance to a network of dealerships throughout the United Kingdom.

Santander Consumer Finance is looking for a Senior Strategic Business Development Manager to join our Commercial Department. This key leadership position is responsible for driving SCUK’s commercial growth and strategic positioning through the development, leadership, and delivery of business initiatives across a wide spectrum of areas.

You will lead initiatives that strengthen SCUK’s commercial capabilities across Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) and other strategically important areas, supporting SCUK’s ambition to diversify and expand its distribution channels and customer propositions.

This is a home based role with the requirement to have regular face to face meetings in Redhill.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and document a commercial roadmap that supports new and existing channel expansion, including OEM, D2C and other business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) opportunities

  • Lead the development of an annual activity plan outlining timings and high-level deliverables for the Business Development Division and gain approval for annual spend

  • Lead the delivery of the Business Development Division’s operational plan in line with prescribed budget, through ongoing review and monitoring of costs.

  • Establish a sound working relationship with all external partners, including any outsourced service providers, plus all internal stakeholders

  • Lead and inspire cross-functional project teams, ensuring clarity of objectives and alignment to SCUK’s growth agenda. Provide coaching and direction as needed

  • Lead the development of any RFP documentation and the management of any Tenders, ensuring at all times that stakeholder engagement is maintained and that the appropriate internal approvals are attained

  • manage the delivery of any subsequently approved new strategic business initiatives as necessary, working in conjunction with all relevant business functions

  • Collaborate with the PR & Events function to build visibility of SCUK’s commercial activities through industry events and thought leadership

  • Ensure all activity is carried out in a compliant manner from a legal and regulatory perspective

  • Deal with or escalate any identified risks in relation to Santander Consumer risk policies and/or legislative and regulatory guidelines in accordance with the Santander UK group risk framework

  • Oversee the implementation of approved business change projects, collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes

  • Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Proven leadership in commercial development within financial services, ideally across both B2B and B2C environments

  • Strong track record of delivering results across multiple strategic initiatives

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including with executive and board-level stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience in designing and executing go-to-market strategies for D2C or digitally enabled offerings

  • Knowledge of compliance, FCA regulation, and risk principles in financial services

  • Experience producing sound strategic working documentation and presentations, including business case briefs and proposals. Has experience of pricing in more than just an individual deal capacity

  • Previous exposure to scaling D2C or digital platforms within a regulated environment

  • Familiarity with contract structuring, commercial modelling, and supplier negotiation

  • First class written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with and present to both internal and external stakeholders across all levels of the business

  • Must be an excellent team player

  • Must be capable of developing/delivering coherent high-level strategic plans as well as detailed activity level plans

  • Must display sound time management skills by delivering activity within prescribed timeframes
