About the Role
Cell Press is launching a new journal, Matter & Light, to better serve researchers working at the materials/light interface (including photovoltaics, photocatalysis, photonics, luminescent and related materials). The journal will be part of a growing portfolio under our flagship materials science journal Matter. We are seeking a Scientific Editor to join the launch team and help catalyse its rapid development. Working closely with the Matter family Editor in Chief and Matter & Light Deputy Editor, the new Editor will have the unique opportunity to shape a prominent and vibrant journal, that also fits cohesively into the Matter and Cell Press journal portfolio.
Responsibilities
Evaluate editorial submissions to maintain the journal’s quality and relevance.
Help develop a journal that is impactful, topical, and accessible to a wide audience.
Build and engage a network of researchers to attract diverse and influential article submissions.
Attend conferences and visit research institutes to stay connected with the scientific community.
Support the Matter journal team and collaborate across the Cell Press publishing ecosystem.
Work with other teams (production, marketing, press, advertising) to contribute to publishing strategies.
Requirements
Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent experience) in material science, chemistry, physics, or a related field with a focus on light and materials.
Experience in scientific editing or peer review is valued.
Demonstrated expertise in materials and light interactions with broad interest in materials-related research.
Ability to build and maintain professional networks within the scope of the journal.
Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills across scientific topics.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
