Shape and Lead Markel’s Delegated Authority Strategy!
Markel is investing heavily into the growth and governance of our delegated authority portfolio and we’re looking for an experienced Schemes / Delegated Authority professional to play a pivotal role in shaping how we manage, develop, and grow these partnerships across the UK Broker channel.
If you have deep knowledge of DA frameworks, enjoy managing complex multi-class portfolios, and want genuine influence over underwriting performance and partner strategy, this is a career-defining opportunity.

Why this role matters:

Our Schemes function is the centre of excellence for delegated authority across Markel’s UK Broker channel, covering PI, Care, Technology, Life Science, Construction, BTE Legal Expenses and emerging classes.

As Schemes Deal Manager, you’ll take ownership of the oversight, performance and strategic direction of a portfolio of delegated deals and help shape our approach to future growth. You’ll work directly with senior internal stakeholders and key broker/MGA partners, ensuring our schemes deliver strong outcomes, profitable performance, and best‑in‑class governance.

What you’ll lead:

  • Full oversight and performance management of delegated deals, including deep‑dive analysis, trend identification and actions to improve outcomes

  • Development of a structured governance and review framework for all scheme partners

  • Lead the distribution plan for Schemes, defining the operating rhythm with broker partners and internal teams

  • Act as primary relationship lead for delegated partners, driving collaboration, transparency and continuous improvement

  • Support onboarding of new delegated authorities, including due diligence, process readiness and commercial negotiation

  • Provide high-quality performance insight to Account Directors and senior leadership, supporting QBRs and strategic decision‑making

  • Champion excellence, representing Markel with credibility and strengthening our market position in the DA/MGA space

What you bring:

  • Strong background in General Insurance with deep experience in delegated authority / MGA oversight within the UK market

  • Proven success in securing, managing and retaining delegated authority portfolios

  • Ability to analyse and interpret performance data, identify trends and confidently present insights to internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience managing complex accounts and driving improvement plans

  • Strong commercial judgement, stakeholder influence and relationship management skills

  • A proactive, ambitious, solutions-focused mindset

  • Ability to represent the business with credibility and build long-term, trusted partnerships

What’s in it for you:

  • Competitive salary + bonus

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with buy/sell options

  • Excellent pension scheme, private medical & dental, life assurance, income protection and more

  • Opportunities to grow, learn and shape a high-profile, high-impact function

  • A people-first culture built around collaboration, integrity and continuous improvement
