Position Overview: Sales Manager at Lonely Planet

 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Trade Sales and Marketing, the Sales Manager is responsible for the delivery of English language print product sales and trade marketing initiatives within established Asian territories and for the achievement of sales opportunities across specific accounts in EMEA.  The role will devise and implement strategies that develop the market position and sales of printed products across the Asian region via the successful management of key distributor(s) and retailers within this defined territory.   It will also identify and then establish sales opportunities across EMEA in both existing and new accounts.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

Sales Manager

 

  • Drive Lonely Planet book sales and create and deliver compelling marketing activity via third-party distributor(s) in Asia.  Activities include, but are not limited to, the development and delivery of monthly sales presentations, the ideation and execution of a calendar of retail marketing campaigns and relationship management with the sales force within the third-party distributor
  • Be accountable for devising, communicating and implementing a strategic vision for the territory
  • Contribute to the building and achievement of annual sales budgets for Asia
  • Via new or existing contacts drive special sales opportunities across the UK territory from the depth of the Lonely Planet backlist
  • Identify and then establish new special sales accounts (examples being subscription boxes, supermarket, deep-discount chains)
  • Successfully achieve an annual special sales budget
  • Deliver and pitch all sales and marketing presentations
  • Build strong, professional relationships with key retail and distribution partners and customers
  • Regularly manage partner performance against agreed objectives with timely reviews
  • Initiate, arrange and then brief all marketing and promotional activities (account specific, individual title or range campaigns) within the defined territory and liaise with the Marketing department to achieve brand marketing objectives. Establish more targeted use of trade marketing with emphasis on ROI.
  • Use your market knowledge to contribute to publishing meetings, including title acquisition meetings and cover consultations.

What We’re Looking For:

 

  • A proven track record in a sales & marketing role within the publishing industry, preferably with experience in Asia and/or UK special sales
  • Deep understanding of the publishing and book retailing industries
  • Direct experience with the creation and delivery of marketing campaigns 
  • A sales person able to generate new leads and see opportunities within our list for special sales
  • Master of cross-functional communications, with experience interfacing with a mix of internal and external teams
  • Confident public speaker who can persuasively express the opportunity and develop a narrative using data
  • Conversant in industry specific tools including, but not limited to, ONIX 
  • Consultative and curious, with a learning mindset
  • Well connected within the book retailing and publishing industry 
  • At your best in a high performance culture
  • Both analytical and creative 
  • Passionate about travel and travel publishing


Compensation

  • UK Compensation Guide: £45,000.00 +
    *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
