A Sales Engineer Manager leads a team of Sales Engineers, overseeing their performance, development, and alignment with sales goals. They are responsible for resource allocation, performance management, and fostering collaboration between Sales Engineering and other departments. Sales Engineer Managers play a key role in developing and implementing best practices, ensuring consistent high-quality technical support for the sales process. They also contribute to hiring decisions, training programs, and strategic planning for the Sales Engineering function.

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Manage and mentor a diverse team of Sales Engineers, Senior Sales Engineers, and Principal Sales Engineers
    • Provide guidance and support to team members at various career stages, fostering their professional growth
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and create individualized development plans
  • Sales Strategy and Execution:
    • Align Sales Engineering efforts with overall sales strategies and goals
    • Work closely with Sales leadership to optimize the sales process and increase win rates
    • Ensure effective collaboration between Sales Engineers and Sales Representatives
    • Develop and implement best practices for technical sales engagements across all levels
  • Technical Expertise and Knowledge Management:
    • Maintain a high level of technical knowledge across the product portfolio
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of Sales Engineering tools and resources
    • Collaborate with Product Management to ensure the team stays updated on product developments
  • Customer Engagement and Relationship Management:
    • Participate in high-stakes or strategic customer engagements when necessary
    • Ensure the team delivers high-quality technical presentations, demonstrations, and proofs of value
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Represent the Sales Engineering perspective in cross-departmental initiatives and projects
    • Contribute to product strategy and roadmap discussions based on customer feedback and market insights
  • Performance Management and Reporting:
    • Establish objectives and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Sales Engineering team
    • Provide regular reports on team performance, win rates, and other relevant metrics
    • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Resource Allocation and Capacity Planning:
    • Manage team workload and allocate resources effectively across different territories and account types
    • Ensure appropriate coverage and support for various customer segments and deal sizes
  • Provide genuine recommendations as to the hiring, firing, promotion, and discipline of subordinate employees to which the Company gives significant weight" and then placed as the last line of the responsibilities section

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 year degree preferred
  • Experience with Gmail and Google Docs
  • Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Experience with web browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.)
