🌟 Position: Risk Manager – Major Infrastructure Project

📍 Location: 2 days on site (London) 3 days remote
💼 Type: Full-time
📅 Start Date: Immediate

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Risk Manager to join our Project Controls team and play a key role supporting one of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure programmes.

Working as part of a major capital delivery environment, you will be responsible for supporting the effective identification, assessment and management of project risks across a complex programme of work. You will work closely with Project Controls, Planning, Commercial, Cost and Project Management teams to provide robust risk insight and help ensure that project decisions are informed by a clear understanding of uncertainty and exposure.

This is a project risk-focused role, rather than an enterprise or corporate risk position. The successful candidate will have strong experience of quantitative risk analysis, QSRA, cost and schedule risk analysis and project risk modelling, ideally gained within major construction, infrastructure, engineering or other complex capital programmes.

About us

CMR is first and foremost a team of people, passionate about the construction industry and changing the way project controls is provided.

We are a progressive and dynamic consultancy offering tailored project controls services across a range of industries.

Our Purpose (Why we exist): Inspiring new ways to help shape our construction industry.
Our Ambition (What we want to achieve): Re-imagine project controls through a digital lens, being the obvious choice for clients and the place to grow together with intention.

🔹 What’s in it for you?
  • At CMR you will have the opportunity to professionally develop like nowhere you have worked before.

  • If you demonstrate the capability, our merit-based system will enable you to develop quickly.

  • We use our in-house capability matrix to transparently track your progression and highlight development areas.

  • Join our small, dynamic team where every member has the chance to make a significant impact, shaping the future direction of our company and making a real difference.

  • We believe in rewarding our team for their achievements, celebrating our successes but equally helping each other when things are tough.

  • The opportunity to work on a major, nationally significant infrastructure programme, gaining exposure to some of the most complex project risk challenges in the UK.

🔹 You’ll
  • Lead and support the implementation of project risk management processes across complex infrastructure and construction projects.

  • Own and maintain project risk registers, ensuring risks are clearly defined in terms of causes, events, impacts, probability, consequence and mitigation actions.

  • Facilitate risk identification and review workshops with Project Management, Planning, Commercial, Engineering and other project stakeholders.

  • Challenge project teams to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, quantified and actively managed.

  • Undertake and support Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA) and Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) to assess the potential impact of uncertainty on project outcomes.

  • Develop and maintain risk models, incorporating cost and schedule uncertainty, risk events, correlations and appropriate probability distributions.

  • Support the development and review of risk allowances, contingency and management reserves, ensuring these are supported by robust quantitative analysis.

  • Analyse project cost and schedule exposure and provide insight into P-values, confidence levels, ranges and potential outcomes.

  • Integrate risk information with project cost and schedule data to provide a consolidated view of project exposure.

  • Work closely with Planning and Project Controls teams to understand the relationship between risk, uncertainty, programme and critical path.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of mitigation strategies and assess changes in risk exposure over the project lifecycle.

  • Produce clear and concise risk reporting, dashboards and management information, highlighting key exposures, trends, emerging risks and areas requiring management intervention.

  • Provide risk input into project forecasts, baseline reviews, change management and key project decision-making processes.

  • Identify and analyse emerging risks and opportunities, ensuring these are captured and appropriately assessed.

  • Support the development of risk scenarios and sensitivity analysis to help project teams understand the potential impact of key uncertainties.

  • Maintain appropriate risk governance, ensuring risk data is accurate, auditable and aligned with project controls requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Project Controls Leads, Planners, Commercial Managers, Cost Managers and senior client stakeholders.

  • Promote a proactive risk and uncertainty management culture, ensuring risk is used as a decision-making tool rather than simply a reporting requirement.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of CMR's project risk methodologies, processes, tools and ways of working.

  • Support Senior Risk Managers and Project Controls Leads in delivering high-quality risk management services to our clients.

🔹 We’re looking for:Essential
  • Proven experience in a project risk management role within major construction, infrastructure, engineering or another complex capital project environment.

  • Strong understanding of project risk management methodologies and quantitative risk analysis.

  • Practical experience undertaking or supporting Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA).

  • Practical experience undertaking or supporting Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA).

  • Experience developing, maintaining and interrogating project risk registers and risk models.

  • Strong understanding of the relationship between risk, cost, schedule, contingency and project forecasting.

  • Experience facilitating risk workshops with project and technical stakeholders.

  • Experience assessing probability, impact, uncertainty and risk exposure and translating this into meaningful project insight.

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex project data and identify trends and areas of concern.

  • Good understanding of project controls and how risk interacts with planning, cost, commercial and change management.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and constructively influence project teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex quantitative analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A proactive approach to identifying emerging risks and opportunities and improving project performance.

  • Experience working in a complex, multi-stakeholder project environment.

Desirable
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, energy, nuclear, rail, defence or other highly regulated capital programmes.

  • Experience working on projects with significant levels of cost and schedule uncertainty.

  • Experience developing or reviewing Monte Carlo risk models.

  • Experience using quantitative risk analysis tools such as Safran, Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK, ARM or similar.

  • Experience producing and interpreting P-values, confidence levels, S-curves, tornado diagrams and risk distributions.

  • Experience with risk allowances, contingency setting and probabilistic forecasting.

  • Experience integrating risk models with project cost and schedule models.

  • Experience working within a mature Project Controls function.

  • Recognised project management or risk qualification such as APM, IRM or equivalent.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
