The People Business Partner will support EMEA leadership in aligning talent strategies with business goals, drive organizational effectiveness, and enhance employee experience while fostering company culture.

AWAL is on a mission to partner with independent artists to tell stories that shape culture. We’ve revolutionized the recording business by putting artists first—providing global marketing and distribution, funding, A&R, playlisting, creative services, synch and brand partnerships, and access to real-time data—while allowing them to retain ownership and control of their music.

With a presence across 13 offices and a roster ranging from breakthrough artists to globally recognised names, we work with talents including Little Simz, Laufey, Disclosure, JPEGMAFIA, deadmau5/Kx5, Tom Misch, and many more. Now part of Sony Music, we operate with an independent spirit and a global outlook.

The Role

AWAL is looking for a Rights Support Coordinator or Manager to join the Artist Support team on a 12 month parental cover contract. The role is focused on capturing, tracking, and resolving rights-related issues across the AWAL business. These queries may come from internal teams, clients, external rights holders, or partner businesses within the Sony family.

This is a fast-moving, detail-oriented role that supports the health of AWAL’s catalogue and ensures artists and partners have clarity and confidence in how their rights are handled. It demands strong problem-solving skills, comfort with structured processes, and the ability to manage multiple cases across internal tools and stakeholders.

You’ll work closely with Business Affairs, Operations, Accounting, and other functions to ensure queries are triaged quickly and resolved efficiently. You’ll also act as a key point of contact for AWAL clients, helping them understand what’s happening with their rights-related issue and what action is required of them, if any.

The role reports to the Head of Growth and is based in the London office, with at least three office days per week expected. We’re open to candidates from a range of experience levels, particularly those with proven operational ability and an interest in music rights and catalogue integrity.

This role underpins the integrity of AWAL’s catalogue and helps ensure artists’ rights are properly respected and defended. As the independent music industry continues to scale and evolve, rights handling has become more important—and more complex. This role is vital to ensuring that complexity is handled professionally, ethically, and clearly for the artists and teams we support.

What you will do
  • Triage and manage all incoming rights-related queries relating to AWAL’s catalogue
  • Communicate clearly with AWAL clients about rights claims, issues, and resolutions
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Business Affairs, Ops, Accounting) to resolve conflicts
  • Accurately log and track issues across multiple tools and documents
  • Follow defined processes for warnings, removals, strikes, and catalogue offboarding
  • Collaborate with partner businesses across the Sony Music ecosystem to maintain shared standards
  • Support our broader Trust & Safety efforts by ensuring accurate, ethical, and consistent rights handling
  • Recommend and help improve internal documentation and team knowledge resources
  • Stay up to date with changes in platform policies, rights trends, and operational best practice
Who you are
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communicator
  • Able to manage multiple stakeholders with professionalism and clarity
  • Organised, precise, and comfortable managing information across several systems
  • A problem-solver who thrives in process-driven environments
  • Familiarity with music rights and copyright ownership is preferred, but not essential
  • Experience with operational or client support roles is a plus
  • Comfortable using data to support decisions and track issues
  • Strong judgment, especially when navigating sensitive issues
  • Passionate about empowering independent artists and protecting their work
  • Experience working in a rights, licensing, royalty, or music operations role is advantageous but not required
What we give you:
  • You join a vibrant global community with the opportunity to channel your passion every day
  • A modern office environment designed for you, empowering you to bring your best
  • Investment in your professional growth and development enabling you to thrive in our vibrant community
  • The space to accelerate progress, positively disrupt and create what happens next
  • We give you the platform to champion positive change, with the opportunity to contribute to our social impact, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
  • We provide an excellent range of benefits like private medical cover, a generous pension scheme, life assurance, income protection, plus loads of music industry perks. There’s also time off over winter break
Equal Opportunities

As an active part of a culturally and socially diverse society, Sony Music’s aim is that our workforce is diverse and inclusive. Sony Music is an equal opportunity employer and supports workforce diversity.
We employ, retain, promote and otherwise treat all employees and job applicants according to their merit, qualifications, competence and talent.
