Job Description
RF & Wideband Antenna Lead

CRFS is seeking a skilled RF & Wideband Antenna Lead to lead the design, simulation, and validation of advanced RF front-ends. This role bridges the gap between electromagnetic design and system-level hardware integration. You will be responsible for the entire physical layer of our RF platforms—from the antenna element through the filters, amplifiers, and matching networks—ensuring high-performance sensing and communication in complex environments.

Key Responsibilities

RF Front-End & Antenna Design:

  • Design and optimize wideband antennas and integrated RF front-ends for high-sensitivity sensing applications.

  • Model complete RF chains using CST Studio Suite, ADS, or Microwave Office, accounting for housing effects, PCBs, and co-site interference.

  • Develop passive RF components, including high-performance filters, couplers, and impedance-matching networks.

Prototyping and System Validation:

  • Develop prototypes and conduct lab-based measurements using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

  • Validate end-to-end RF performance (Gain, NF, IP3, and Return Loss) against simulation models and system requirements.

  • Lead the integration of RF sub-systems into enclosures, managing thermal, mechanical, and EMI/EMC constraints.

Field Testing and System Evaluation:

  • Conduct field trials to assess real-world RF propagation and system sensitivity.

  • Analyze complex datasets to troubleshoot performance deviations and signal integrity issues.

  • Collaborate with systems engineers to optimize the hardware-software interface for digital signal processing.

Documentation and Strategy:

  • Maintain comprehensive design documentation, from initial link budgets to final production test specifications.

  • Contribute to product roadmaps by identifying emerging RF technologies and components.

Basic Requirements
Qualifications

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in RF circuit design and antenna integration.

  • Strong background in wideband systems and small-form-factor RF electronics.

  • Hands-on experience with EM simulation (CST/HFSS) and linear/non-linear circuit simulation.

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of electromagnetic theory, transmission line theory, and RF signal chains.

  • Proficiency in PCB layout for RF/high-speed digital signals (controlled impedance, isolation).

  • Experience with RF measurement techniques, including calibration and error correction.

  • Knowledge of RF system architecture, including mixers, LNAs, and frequency synthesis.

Personal Attributes:

  • A "system-thinker" who understands how component-level choices impact overall mission success.

  • Analytical and methodical approach to troubleshooting "black box" RF issues.

  • Strong collaborative skills for working across hardware and software disciplines.
