Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest

As a Resource Manager, you’ll balance business demand with people development, ensuring projects are staffed effectively, workloads are sustainable, and individuals have the right opportunities to grow and thrive.

This is a highly influential role for someone who enjoys solving complex puzzles, building trusted relationships, and making decisions that genuinely matter.

About the role

Supporting the Strategy, Communications and Competition practices, you'll work closely with the Practice Managers and senior leaders to shape how work and people come together.

You’ll act as an objective, trusted advisor, helping the practices make well-judged resourcing decisions today while planning effectively for the future.

This role blends:

  • Strategic thinking and forecasting

  • Hands-on scheduling and problem-solving

  • A strong people and wellbeing lens

  • Representing the practice in firm-wide scheduling discussions

  • Working closely with Frontier’s central and practice scheduling teams to ensure a smooth, consistent process

  • Matching people to projects based on skills, capacity and development goals

  • Anticipating demand, modelling capacity and planning ahead for future projects

  • Reconciling competing demands and resolving resourcing challenges with clarity and fairness

  • Communicating scheduling decisions clearly and openly with consulting staff

  • Extending resourcing processes to senior grades and supporting the change effectively

Insight, reporting and improvement

  • Monitoring utilisation and capacity metrics to spot trends, risks and opportunities

  • Producing and interpreting management information to inform hiring and resourcing decisions

  • Using insight to encourage positive behaviours around workload, planning and utilisation

  • Reviewing how systems and data support resourcing and recommending improvements

  • Working with practice teams to implement new tools or ways of working

Supporting development and wellbeing

  • Building strong relationships with economists to understand their skills, interests and development goals

  • Using staffing insight to spot early signs of pressure, wellbeing challenges or skills gaps

  • Working closely with the central People Team to ensure timely and appropriate support

  • Supporting onboarding and planning for parental leave and other absences

  • Flagging future resourcing needs with Recruitment and practice leadership

  • Contributing insight to people processes such as BPRs, surveys and career development discussions

Who this role is for

You’re likely to thrive if you:

  • Have experience in resourcing, workforce planning, operations or a similar role

  • Are analytically minded and comfortable working with data and management information

  • Build trust easily and can challenge constructively when needed

  • Communicate clearly and calmly, even when navigating competing priorities

  • Care deeply about both business performance and people wellbeing

  • Enjoy improving systems and ways of working

At Frontier Economics, we are entirely employee-owned, meaning every team member has a voice in shaping the company’s future.
