The role:

An enthusiastic R&D Lead Scientist is needed to join Lonza AG in Slough, UK. Your main tasks involve planning and implementing studies to support technology and product development projects with clear scopes and timelines. Your efforts are essential for delivering high-quality technical solutions to improve purification processes at Lonza Pharma Biotech & Nutrition.

Key responsibilities:
  • Design, plan, and complete studies in support of technology or process/product development projects with well-defined scopes and timelines. Analyse study data to drive conclusions.

  • Anticipate risks to activity completion and define appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • Craft and prepare detailed study plans to meet project targets with minimal oversight.

  • Complete HTP studies within agreed timelines and analyse data to guide process development.

  • Continuously improve HTP workflows for efficiency, scalability, and integration into development pipelines.

  • Provide strong scientific/technical leadership in the development and implementation of bioprocessing technologies.

  • Maintain accurate and timely records to the appropriate quality standards for self.

  • Perform high-quality technical analyses, prepare reports and presentations with clear conclusions and recommendations for internal or external use.

  • Support team resource planning, project management activities, and prioritisation decisions.

Key requirements:
  • BSc or BEng in Biotechnology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • A proven understanding of technical components of CDMO operations and GMP requirements.

  • Demonstrate strong scientific expertise by applying basic concepts to solve problems effectively.

  • Proficiency in basic data analysis and drawing logical conclusions.

  • Ability to determine and successfully implement innovative solutions.
