Research Associate - Competition Economics
Our Research Associates are involved in diverse, challenging assignments within a stimulating, collegial work environment. As a Research Associate in our Competition practice, you will participate in project teams with senior consulting staff and leading industry experts, analysing complex matters such as mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, abuse of dominance, cartels, and class actions. You will have an opportunity to support our Principals, Academic Advisors, and Outside Experts as they serve as expert witnesses before courts and arbitration panels on behalf of law firms, corporations, and government agencies in the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and elsewhere.
Research Associates at Brattle are experienced professionals who bring valuable expertise and education to our team. This role is ideal for those who have proven excellent analytical skills and are eager to manage and supervise analytical workstreams, training more junior staff and contribute to expert report drafting.
Typical assignments include:
- Work with the Associate(s) to identify main analytical workstreams
- Understand, perform, and supervise statistical/econometric analyses
- Supervise day-to-day tasks carried out by more junior staff
- Manage auditing and submission process of expert reports to competition authorities, tribunals, etc.
- Contribute to the drafting of expert reports, client memos, proposals, presentations, etc.
- Give timely feedback, positive and constructive, to junior staff when appropriate
- Formally and informally mentor junior staff members
- Regularly contribute to firm initiatives, e.g. recruiting, training, and business development
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Master’s degree in economics or another quantitative discipline along with 3 – 4 years of experience in economic consulting or industry, preferably in the competition and antitrust space
- Our project work is done almost exclusively on teams, so it’s critical that our Research Associate’s work well with others
- Intellectual curiosity and creativity as we are looking for candidates who consistently want to learn more and approach problems with creativity
- A high degree of ownership and commitment. Successful Research Associates are committed to delivering their best work product and taking ownership of their work.
- Expertise in Excel as well as other data applications is desired
