The Role

As a Reporting and Risk Governance Apprentice in our Governance, Reporting and Controls Improvement team, you’ll be joining the part of M&G that helps keep our business running safely and smoothly. Our team works to spot potential risks, make sure important checks are in place, and support the Asset Management business in making good decisions.

This is a great opportunity to learn how a large financial organisation works, while building strong foundations in governance, reporting and risk management — all essential skills for your future career.

Working with experienced colleagues, you will learn:

  • how risks in a business are identified and monitored

  • why controls (the checks and processes a business relies on) are important

  • how teams work together to keep the business operating safely and effectively

You’ll spend time with different areas of the business such as Risk, Operations, Compliance, Legal and Technology giving you a rounded understanding of how we work and how decisions are made.

You will also gain experience supporting requests from senior leaders and committees, helping you see the bigger picture of how M&G is run.

As your confidence grows, you’ll be encouraged to take on more responsibility, follow established processes, share your ideas for improvements, and develop practical skills that will support your long‑term career development.

What will you be doing?

As a Reporting and Risk Governance Apprentice, you will be:

  • Help the team gather, check and organise information that is used for risk reports and senior meetings.

  • Support the preparation of packs and materials for risk committees and other internal meetings.

  • Monitor key risk metrics, helping the team spot early signs of issues and raising them where needed.

  • Attend regular team and project meetings, taking notes and helping with actions as part of a large, ongoing company project.

  • Work with other Risk teams across the business to support the delivery of the team’s priorities for 2026.

  • Learn about M&G’s Operational Risk Framework and standards, developing an understanding of how we manage risks and keep the business running safely.

What will I need to be successful in this role?

  • A genuine interest in financial markets, asset management and risk‑related work.

  • Confident communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • The ability to build positive working relationships with different teams.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to follow processes and coordinate tasks.

  • Strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy.

  • A proactive, structured approach to your work, with good time‑management skills.

  • The ability to work well in a team and independently, and to ask for help or escalate issues when needed.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • The ability to balance day‑to‑day tasks alongside your apprenticeship studies.

  • A basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and willingness to learn more.

  • A curious, logical mindset and a strong desire to learn and develop.

Minimum Requirements

  • Available to start the apprenticeship programme in September 2026

  • You must not be enrolled into another further education programme at the beginning of the programme

  • Be a UK citizen or have proof of your right to work in the UK
