Job Description

The Department

The European financial services regulatory team forms part of the firms Investment Management Group and M&A Practice Area.  The team is primarily non-contentious in focus but does assist on contentious regulatory issues.  The team is broad in focus and advises on a wide variety of UK domestic and cross-border regulatory issues. The team works closely with a number of practice areas:  Investment Management, M&A, Capital Markets, Litigation, Banking and Restructuring reflecting the firms transactional focus.  Given the European Investment Management Group's successful launch in late 2011 the team works closely on fund structurings and launches and also on high profile asset management M&A transactions.

The team is also called upon to assist US colleagues on the cross border implementation of G20 initiatives which have produced EMIR and the MIFID 2 processes.  The application of the Volcker rule in the EU is likely to produce issues for our US clients especially in view of EU ringfencing.  Finally, US colleagues need input on Basel 3 roll-out in the EU.

Qualifications

The Role

The new hire will join the financial services regulatory team where they will undertake a broad range of non-contentious regulatory work.  They will have regular exposure to clients and are encouraged to engage in business development activities.  The role will require flexibility in approach and an ability to satisfy the demands of both transaction support and advisory requests.

Person Specification

We are looking for a junior to mid-level regulatory associate with experience of working in a financial services regulatory team in either a well-regarded City practice or US firm with a primary focus on non-contentious regulatory matters covering MiFID, AIFMD, EMIR, M&A related issues, market abuse, capital markets and regulatory capital.

The successful candidate will have strong academics and will need to have completed a training contract at a well-regarded London law firm or have equivalent experience from a common law jurisdiction.  The candidate will also be expected to play an integral part in growing and developing the regulatory team and an ability and a willingness to look at cross-border issues is essential.
