Regional Financial Controller - Europe

Position Overview: 

The Regional Financial Controller - Europe leads the financial control function for the European region in addition to global financial controller for our Advanced Wound Care, Infusion Care and Global Quality Operations business units, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance and effective risk management across complex, high-value entities. This role drives consistency in financial governance and supports strategic decision-making through robust control processes.  Working cross-functionally with senior stakeholders, the role influences enterprise-wide initiatives and system improvements. Success is measured by the strength of financial controls, quality of reporting, and ability to lead across diverse geographies and business units. 

Key Responsibilities: 

•    Lead & deliver required changes to financial processes, implementation of accounting standard changes in your jurisdiction and lead on financial aspects of system improvements.
•    Provide expert IFRS and local GAAP accounting policy insights to ensure compliance to both business-as-usual processes in addition to adhoc material transactions or business changes.
•    Partner with our Convatec Business Services centres (CBS) to provide financial insights and guidance to enable delivery of financial statements.
•    Partner with the Financial Control team and Global Process Owners to ensure the appropriateness and compliance with continuous improvement initiatives.
•    Provide expert support to stakeholders on the management of both internal and external audit requirements.
•    Ensure activities across the finance teams in your jurisdiction are aligned to the finance operating model and lead on continuing to simplify & standardise activities.
•    Be an advocate and trusted partner of the CBS – ensure issues are resolved quickly and efficiently and be a change agent for standardisation.
•    Overall responsibility for all aspects of financial reporting and compliance for allocated region as some of the most material entities within the Group.
•    Provide leadership in transformation initiatives, system implementations, and M&A activities.
•    Lead and develop a high-performing financial controller team.
•    Approval of material non-routine financial journals in your jurisdiction in line with Convatec’s Grant of Authority framework. 

Skills & Experience: 

•    Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to quickly take complex and detailed information and provide an executive summary of the material aspects.
•    Deep understanding of internal control frameworks, financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP), and regulatory compliance.
•    Ability to align financial control strategy with broader business goals and influence senior stakeholders.
•    Inquisitive nature. 
•    Ability to lead on the management of complex & conflicting priorities.  
•    Self starter.
•    Experience in influencing a wide range of senior stakeholders, including the ability to challenge where appropriate to ensure the best outcome is achievement.
•    Experience in leading global teams, coaching talent, and fostering inclusive, high-performance cultures.
•    Thrives in dynamic environments and embraces change with resilience and curiosity.

Qualifications/Education:

•    University level degree in Finance or similar business subject. 
•    15+ years’ experience in working in a finance environment with preference in a multi-site global company. 
•    Qualified chartered accountant or similar. 


 

This is a remote role, that may be based in the UK, Germany or Portugal.  This position will require travel around 15-20% the time.
