Naval Programmes Quality Engineer / Quality Assurance Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality Engineer to join our Quality team in Bristol. This role is part of the Programme Quality Engineer structure. The main function of this role is to ensure that Contractual Quality Requirements for products or services are understood, captured and flowed down through the business to ensure we meet regulatory, contractual and customer requirements. The role will support a range of Defence Naval Fleet customers operating Rolls-Royce gas turbines on numerous platforms. The role will require strong collaboration with the rest of the engineering team and will include responsibilities for customer queries, repair and overhaul, corporate management system compliance, and support for internal auditing. The role requires a willingness to support improvement initiatives and the desire to challenge the status quo whilst continually promoting a progressive quality culture and compliance to the Rolls-Royce Management System.
This role will also support the assigned programmes activities, including:
- Engaging with partners to align quality objectives
- Leading / Supporting resolution of investigation related to Customer complaints
- Working with suppliers to ensure quality standards are understood and met
- Where required, manage non-conformance through the agreed corporate methods and systems
- Leading and conducting compliance audits and reviews
- Monitoring the day to day operational activities to ensure compliance in line with contractual deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Interface with Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) shops, representing engineering teams to maintain build and assembly quality, including management of declared and undeclared non-conformance. Supporting MRB (Material Review Board) for quarantine of product through to disposition and the scrap process as necessary.
- Establish and maintain an appropriate customer concerns review (Customer Issues Board), complaint management, ensuring timely resolution of internal and external quality issues with appropriate containment actions, including robust root cause analysis and escalate issues appropriately within the problem resolution process. Supporting resolutions through Product Change Board (PCB) tasks as appropriate.
- Process and product oversight within MRO operations will be delivered through a good understanding of customer requirements, ensuring compliance with established build methods, and monitoring compliance from goods receiving through to despatch. Compiling necessary quality documentation throughout the process including Process Deviation Plans, Contractual Quality Plans and release documentation (e.g. C of C).
- Customer Interface for Naval Fleet, coordinating activities between Programmes / Services / Engineering including interaction with MRO sub-contractors.
- Ensure process compliance with the RR Quality Management System, promoting awareness and education. Preparation, review and amendment as necessary of procedures and work instructions, and support management of the Defence Quality intranet site.
- Utilising Business Map to Support the Defence Audit Programme (System, Product and Process), record and track audit non-conformance and drive for closure in line with corporate requirements.
- Lead the resolution of quality related Customer Complaints to maintain Customer Satisfaction.
- Lead the resolution of MARS complaints (Manage Action and Reporting System).
- Represent Defence Naval with SMS (Safety Management System).
- Attend Programme Review Meetings and report status of Quality Issues.
- Maintain the skill levels and training required to undertake the role.
- Support Monthly Customer Reviews, updating quality slides in the customer presentation pack.
- Liaising with DQAFF (Defence Quality Assurance Field Force) and Customer.
Your main contacts / relationships in this role will be: VPs Quality, Quality Executives, Commercial Managers, Programme Managers, Customer Representatives, OE and MRO Managers, and other Contract specific Key Stakeholders.

- Knowledge of Green Belt and Process Improvement methodologies (e.g. Kaizen).
- Auditor or Lead Auditor.
- Extensive knowledge of Regulatory requirements and International Quality Standards.
- Good IT skills working with a range of Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio),
- visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Business Map, PowerBI etc.) and SAP.
- Knowledge of the RRMS and ability to navigate the system.
- Knowledge of SABRe (Supplier Advanced Business Relationship).
- Have an understanding of products and process used within our facilities.
- Confidence to communicate effectively within the business and customers at all levels.

The professional level and salary of the position will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate but is anticipated to be Staff Grade SNBG 6 - 10
