Position
Quality Assurance Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and governance of the Group Data Platform, covering data engineering, platform engineering, and data governance processes.

Summary of the Role
Howden Group Services is expanding its Group Data Platform and is looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to help test, validate, and improve data pipelines, infrastructure, and governance processes. The ideal candidate will have experience in data testing, automation frameworks, and cloud-based data platforms, ensuring that data pipelines, storage, and platform components meet high-quality standards.

This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong technical foundation in data assurance and test automation, working alongside data engineers, platform engineers, and governance teams to ensure data accuracy, reliability, and compliance.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Support the execution of the quality assurance strategy for the Group Data Platform, ensuring the reliability of data pipelines, infrastructure, and governance processes.

  • Develop and execute test cases for data ingestion, transformation, and storage within the platform.

  • Implement automated testing frameworks to validate data integrity, schema consistency, and pipeline performance.

  • Assist in testing platform engineering components, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and cloud-based services.

  • Validate data governance policies, ensuring adherence to data security, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.

  • Monitor and report on quality metrics, identifying potential risks and inconsistencies within the platform.

  • Collaborate with engineers, governance, and analytics teams to define testing requirements and best practices.

  • Contribute to performance testing, ensuring that data pipelines and infrastructure can handle large-scale data processing efficiently.

  • Support troubleshooting efforts, helping identify and resolve quality issues in data workflows, platform components, and integrations.

  • Continuously improve testing frameworks, leveraging automation and best practices to enhance efficiency.

Requirements
Candidates should have:

  • 3+ years of experience in quality assurance, test automation, or data validation.

  • Experience in testing data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and big data environments.

  • Familiarity with Azure data platforms, such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, or ADLS.

  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Scala) for data validation and test automation.

  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Great Expectations, DBT tests, PyTest, or similar).

  • Exposure to CI/CD testing within Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.

  • Understanding of data governance, data security, and compliance frameworks.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders.

  • Experience working with infrastructure testing (e.g., Terraform validation, cloud security testing) (preferred).

  • Experience with data observability tools (not essential, but preferred).

This role is an excellent opportunity for a Quality Assurance Engineer to contribute to ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of data and infrastructure within the Group Data Platform while gaining experience in cloud-based big data environments.
