About Lawhive

We're on a mission to make sure everyone has access to the law.
Lawhive is an online platform for consumers and small businesses to get legal help for a fraction of the cost of a law firm. Our platform combines regulated human lawyers collaborating alongside the world’s first AI lawyer, specifically built for consumer legal work.

Equal access to the law is one of the biggest and most pressing unsolved problems in society today. We’re passionate about leveling the playing field and believe access to the law should be a basic utility in society.

Our AI lawyer Lawrence is built on top of our own fine tuned LLM and recently passed the UK’s bar exam equivalent.

We’re backed by some of the top US and UK VC funds including Google Ventures, Balderton Capital and TQ Ventures. We recently secured a $40M Series A funding round to facilitate international expansion and to grow our team, representing one of the five largest Series A rounds in Europe for 2024.
The Role

You’ll be the first QA Engineer at Lawhive, and this is a unique opportunity to shape a new QA function working with technical and product leaders across the company. You’ll help us set a high bar for delivering exceptional software used by lawyers and their clients every day, including designing solutions to new challenges around LLM-based software.

What the job involves
  • Owning the testing infrastructure to improve our product quality and avoid regressions in AI-first software

  • Working with product teams and our lawyer users to validate work we’re doing, improve our testing and quality rigour, and contribute to how we release and build exceptional products

  • Building and maintaining test suites and pipelines that keep pace with our rapid product development across our product and AI functions

  • Working with the rest of the engineering team to adopt better testing methodologies and tools to improve the quality of their work

  • Defining and monitoring key flows, runbooks and quality metrics across product teams and contributing to our monitoring and reporting infrastructure with our platform and DevOps engineers

Our Engineering Culture
  • Ship daily - We’re building and releasing features fast, going from idea to production in hours rather than weeks.

  • Empathise with users - Lawyers and legal clients have unique perspectives, preferences and expectations. We build products which understand them deeply.

  • Strive for excellence - We’re ambitious and moving fast. The whole business is pushing to be a category defining legal tech company.

  • Constantly learning and experimenting - We’re at the cutting edge of using AI to directly improve people’s lives. We take a blue-sky but pragmatic approach to how we apply new technologies.

Our tech stack and day to day tools are:
  • TypeScript for the majority of our applications, frontends, and microservices

  • Python for data ingestion and our AI services

  • AWS for our cloud infrastructure

  • Postgres for our data storage

  • Terraform for defining infrastructure as code

What you'll bring
  • You are very comfortable with automated testing tools and frameworks in the web, Typescript and Python ecosystems end-to-end (e.g. Playwright, Github Actions, Vittest, Pytest)

  • You have built from the ground up testing frameworks and patterns for high velocity engineering teams

  • You have worked with engineering and infrastructure teams to apply testing patterns and practices in their daily work

  • You are familiar with AI software and the unique testing challenges posed by non-deterministic software.

Interview process
  • Introductory call with our Talent team

  • 1:1 with your hiring manager

  • Technical interview

  • Values interview with our CTO/Co-founder

  • We offer!
