Public Cloud - Assistant Infrastructure Engineer
Locations : Manchester, Leeds, Halifax, Edinburgh & Bristol
Salary: £47,790 - £53,100

Hours: Full timeAgile Working Options: Hybrid – at least two days per week (40% of your time) in one of our offices.
Working Pattern: Some out‑of‑hours work and participation in an on‑call support rota will be required.

Our core technology focus is on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
We are looking for candidates who are interested working in our Google Lab. Our team are responsible for the banks Google Cloud Platform, which underpins the bank’s digital journeys, data capabilities and emerging Generative AI workloads. As an assistant Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll develop the skills to build and automate cloud services that help teams across LBG innovate safely and efficiently.
You’ll learn from experienced engineers, gain exposure to real production workloads, and develop strong cloud engineering foundations in a modern GCP environment. This is an outstanding opportunity to grow into a skilled cloud engineer able to support and deliver enterprise‑scale solutions.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting provisioning and configuration of GCP services
- Writing Infrastructure‑as‑Code in Terraform and learning best‑practice IaC patterns.
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Terraform Cloud, Harness and GitHub.
- Building automation to improve consistency, security and reduce manual effort.
- Supporting incident response and learning good operational practices.
- Participating in agile ceremonies and contributing to continuous improvement
- Building foundational knowledge in observability, security and DevOps culture.
About you
You’re early in your cloud engineering journey but highly motivated to learn, grow and take ownership. You love understanding how systems fit together, enjoy solving problems and are excited about working with cutting‑edge cloud technology — including how infrastructure supports new AI capabilities.
You collaborate well, communicate clearly, and bring curiosity and energy to your team.
Essential skills & experience
- 1–3 years’ experience in DevOps, SRE or cloud engineering.
- Basic understanding of cloud concepts and core GCP services.
- Foundational scripting in Python, Bash, Java or Go.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Harness or GitHub Actions.
- Exposure to IaC tools, preferably Terraform.
- Enthusiasm, initiative and a desire to grow technically.
Desirable skills
- Awareness of Kubernetes/containerisation
- Understanding of observability tooling (Prometheus, Dynatrace, etc.).
- Awareness of agile ways of working.
