The Opportunity:

The Estates Department of the University of Edinburgh has an exciting opportunity within the Estates Operations team for someone with a proven track record to take ownership of and manage, a range of construction, infrastructure, maintenance and net-zero projects on behalf of the University from feasibility to completion or appropriate stage. Ensure each project's University, College, Support Group and School objectives are met and ensure each project is completed within agreed constraints of quality, cost and time. 

The job holder will be operating within commercial property and construction industries which are technically and financially complex and will be expected to make decisions to safeguard strategic and project objectives and optimise benefit for the University. Candidates will have to operate within a wide range of legislation and guidelines including Health & Safety, Building Control and Planning legislation, industry and sector guidance and University financial regulations and policies.

Your Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Educated to degree level with chartered professional status in Architecture (RIBA), Surveying (RICS), Project Management (RICS), Engineering (CIBSE / ICE), or Building (CIOB) with high level interpersonal, numeracy, written and computer literacy skills. 
  • Considerable professional and technical experience in design, construction, procurement and project management, showing an ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development and a demonstrable record of delivering a range of planning and successfully implementing a range of capital development projects.
  • Leadership, management and motivational experience and skills to manage the wide ranging and technically skilled stakeholders of the project.  Ability to use initiative to enable progress to be made in complex circumstances. A clean driving licence is desirable.

The University of Edinburgh has a significant programme of estates investment underway, in both capital development and also in the infrastructure and resilience of the estate. This investment will help to ensure that the university remains at the forefront of world leading teaching, learning and research.

The Estates Department is part of the Corporate Services Group and provides a range of key activities that help the University to achieve its corporate objectives. It is an integrated centre of excellence responsible for implementing decisions related to the buildings, fabric and infrastructure of the University. It provides specialist advice to the University on strategic estates issues as well as its statutory obligations.
