Job Description

The project manager role is to successfully achieve delivery of the sequel software solution(s) to our clients on budget and on time.

The project manager is responsible for leading a team to scope the way the project will be run, setting and managing deadlines and monitoring and reporting work progress against such deadlines and budgets both to internal stakeholders and client stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales

  • Participate in the creation of the project Statement of Works with pre-sales, Head of Product Line and
    • Product Line Delivery Manager.
  • Works with the Product Line Delivery Manager to determine appropriate skill required for the project work and book the appropriate Product Line resources to complete the project work.

Project Execution

  • Responsible for successful project delivery (large in scale) within project budgets whilst following the Sequel PMO project delivery processes. To include, but not limited to, responsibilities for: -
    • Obtaining stage-gate and all interim sign-offs, e.g. client specifications, internal build & test tasks
    • Release process and supporting project & stakeholder sign-offs
    • Managing Client User Acceptance Testing
    • Project closure and handover to BAU teams (e.g. Sequel Support)
    • Pre-empting and removing any issues or blockers during project execution to allow the successful delivery.
  • Works with the Product Line delivery team to agree the requirements and approach for new work.
  • Organises with the delivery team the estimates for the desired project work.
  • Manage the project delivery team to deliver against agreed budgets and timelines.
  • Create appropriate project plans and liaise with the client to achieve a joint plan for a successfully delivered project. Maintain the plans as changes occur and the liaison with the client to adjust the joint plans.


Management, monitoring and optimisation of the project plan

  • Manage the project delivery team to deliver against agreed budgets and timelines.
  • Ensure all project quality processes and standards are adhered to for the scale of project in execution.
  • Obtain regular forecasts from the team to enable accurate project reporting.
  • Review timesheets submitted from the Product Line delivery team to ensure timely and accurate detailed timesheet entry.
  • Manage project RAID log and independently identify solutions/strategies to resolve problems as they arise.
  • Raise appropriate Change Controls to manage change requests (scope, schedule or budgets), achieve client sign-off and maintain project governance. Seniority and experience to understand the Sequel commercial landscape and present the Change Controls to the client to achieve sign-off within that context.
  • Works with the Product Line Delivery Manager and other Product Line Project Managers to resolve problems and complaints.

Reporting and client engagement

  • Ensure accurate project reporting – weekly internal invoices, external client project status and budget reports.
  • Work with the client Account Manager, Head of Product Line and Product Line Delivery Manager to monitor and maintain project revenues are kept in line with forecasts/targets.
  • Regular engagement, at least weekly, with the Sequel Account Manager to maintain a close understanding of current project positions and the client strategic positions on the account.
  • Develop good working relationships with team members.

  • Provide performance feedback on project team members.

Continual improvement and governance

  • Collate project lessons learned throughout the project life-cycle. Applying improvements during project execution and following project delivery to participate in continuous improvement programmes as appropriate.
  • Proactively suggest and apply continuous improvements to product-line delivery processes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ability to mentor other project managers against Sequel standards to achieve ‘on time & on budget’ delivery.
  • If required, can deputise for Programme Manager on a wider Sequel suite programme to achieve delivery of products outside of their line management control.
  • Any other duties commensurate to the grade of the role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Previous experience within a software development environment across the full development life-cycle.
  • Commercially minded project manager with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record for delivering software projects on time and on budget with budgets >£1m
  • Structured approach to project management with a recognised qualification (e.g. PMP).
  • Attention to detail and focus on delivering quality software products.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Project, Work, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • Prior line-management and team mentoring experience.
  • Proven track record for delivery of complex software projects within a wider programme of activity, on time and on budget.
  • Gravitas in managing internal teams, external clients and external Steer Co’s.
