The Role:
M&G Life serves over 5 million customers and manages more than £300 billion across a diverse range of products and wrappers, with an ambitious growth agenda for 2025 and beyond. Our Marketing & Digital Technology Change Transformation Programme is at the heart of this transformation—driving digital engagement, modernising customer journeys, and enabling data-led marketing strategies.
As Programme Manager, you will provide hands-on leadership for complex digital and marketing initiatives, ensuring seamless delivery of projects that enhance customer experience and strengthen our digital capabilities. You will lead a team of Project Managers, setting the standard for delivery excellence, fostering a culture of accountability, and championing the use of modern delivery tools. Acting as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, you will translate strategic direction into tangible outcomes, with full ownership of delivery artefacts, governance, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-End Delivery Leadership – Proven ability to lead complex business transformation programmes from initiation to benefits realisation, ensuring alignment with portfolio objectives and governance standards
- Stakeholder Management & Communication - Experience engaging senior stakeholders (up to Executive/Board level), building trust, and presenting updates in governance forums such as Steering Group.
- Marketing & Digital Technology Knowledge - Familiarity with digital channel optimisation, marketing data platforms, and customer engagement strategies. e.g., delivering rebrand projects, driving D2C campaigns through social channels, using analytics to optimise performance, enhancing digital presence with mobile-first design etc.
- Programme Governance & Risk Management - Strong understanding of governance frameworks, RAID management, and risk mitigation strategies across multi-disciplinary teams and third-party dependencies.
- Agile & Change Delivery Expertise - Track record of working in fast-paced, agile environments, applying best practice methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) and continuous improvement principles
- People Leadership & Development- Line manage and develop Project Managers, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and (where appropriate) formal performance management.
- Delivery Leadership & Excellence - Set the standard for delivery excellence, acting as a hands-on leader who resolves issues, removes blockers, and drives progress.
- Culture & Ownership - Foster a culture of accountability, challenge, and improvement within the delivery team. Support benefits tracking and realisation in partnership with PMO and portfolio leadership.
- Tooling & Data Driven Decisions - Champion the use of delivery tools (Jira highly desirable) and promote data-driven decision-making.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Programme Delivery Expertise - Proven experience as a Programme Manager / Senior Project Manager (essential), with a track record of delivering complex projects or programmes.
- Team Leadership & Development - Experience leading and developing teams, with the ability to provide both day-to-day direction and formal line management (where required).
- Delivery Methodologies - Hands-on expertise in delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) and ability to coach others in best practice.
- Stakeholder Engagement - Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging both senior leaders, delivery teams and external third parties.
- Execution & Delivery Focus - Relentless focus on delivery, execution, and “getting the job done.”
- Governance & Reporting - Experience preparing and owning delivery artefacts and reporting for governance forums.
- Broad Delivery Experience - Strong delivery expertise across a range of project types;
- Third-Party Delivery Management – Proven ability to manage and collaborate with external partners and vendors to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
- Tools & Technology - Proficiency with delivery tools (Jira experience highly desirable).
- Industry Knowledge - Financial Services change experience is particularly desirable, especially Life & Pensions and/or Marketing & Digital change, but not essential.
Qualifications
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
- Project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile, PMP) desirable.
