This Programme Manager role sits at the heart of a significant transformation within M&S Food Supply Chain, leading the rollout of 2D barcodes across all chilled categories. It is a high‑profile, end to end programme that brings together packaging, product data, suppliers, logistics, depots, stores, digital capability and technology, creating real momentum behind how the business operates.

You will take full accountability for shaping and delivering a complex, multi‑workstream programme that improves accuracy, efficiency, food safety and customer experience. From early pilots through to full scale deployment, you will drive pace and clarity, remove barriers and ensure the business is operationally ready, colleagues are confident, suppliers are aligned and technology supports successful adoption.

This role plays a key part in how M&S continues to evolve its supply chain, turning innovation into practical, day to day ways of working. Partnering closely with teams across Commercial, Supply Chain, Retail Operations, Technology, Data and Digital, as well as our supplier base, you will help translate strategy into meaningful change that is felt across stores, depots and supplier relationships.

Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the end to end delivery of the 2D barcode programme for chilled foods, aligned to GS1 global standards and the wider M&S barcoding roadmap.
  • Own and drive the integrated programme plan across packaging, commercial, supply chain, logistics, depots, data and stores, ensuring clear milestones and delivery focus.
  • Manage pilot, scale up and full deployment phases, balancing pace with operational stability and food safety.
  • Lead packaging redesign, artwork changes and supplier onboarding, ensuring readiness across internal teams and external partners.
  • Lead business change activity including colleague training, supplier communications, operational guidance, governance, budget management and go live support.

Who you are

  • An experienced programme manager with a strong track record of delivering complex, multi‑workstream programmes in retail or FMCG environments.
  • Knowledgeable about chilled food operations, packaging processes and supplier management, with confidence working across commercial, operational and technical teams.
  • Comfortable operating at pace in a high‑profile role, managing ambiguity and making clear, informed decisions.
  • A strong stakeholder manager who builds trust, aligns diverse groups and keeps senior leaders engaged and informed.
  • Experienced in business change and operational readiness, with a focus on landing end to end adoption.

What’s in it for you?
Working at M&S means being part of something bigger - helping to deliver quality, value and service to millions of customers every day. We’re inclusive, fast‑moving and always evolving, with a strong sense of purpose and a focus on doing the right thing.

Here are just a few of the benefits that make working here even more rewarding:

  • 20% colleague discount on all M&S products and many third‑party brands for you and someone in your household, available once you’ve completed your probation
  • Competitive holiday allowance with the option to buy more

  • Strong pension and life assurance to help plan for the future
  • Tailored induction and training to support your development from day one
  • Exclusive perks and savings through our M&S Choices portal
  • Market‑leading family policies, including parental, adoption and neonatal leave
  • 24/7 wellbeing support, including virtual GP access and mental health services
  • One paid volunteer day a year to support a cause that matters to you
