The Role

We are looking for an experienced Product Owner Consultant with strong knowledge of SEPA payments to support a leading Belgian bank in developing and improving its payment products and services.

You will act as the bridge between business stakeholders and delivery teams, translating business and customer needs into a clear product vision, priorities, and actionable user stories.

You will own and manage the product backlog, clarify requirements, and guide the delivery team throughout the product lifecycle. Experience with SEPA Direct Debit is a strong advantage, although broader SEPA payments experience is also relevant.

 

What You Will Do

  • Define and communicate the product vision, objectives, and priorities for SEPA payment solutions.
  • Translate business and customer needs into clear product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Create, refine, and prioritize the product backlog.
  • Act as the main link between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
  • Prioritize features based on business value, customer impact, risk, dependencies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, developers, architects, operations, and compliance teams.
  • Participate actively in Agile and Scrum ceremonies.
  • Facilitate workshops and alignment sessions with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Review and validate delivered functionalities.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing, implementation, and change activities.
  • Ensure that solutions comply with SEPA standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

 

What We Are Looking For

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Product Owner Consultant in a complex business and technology environment.
  • Strong experience within payments, preferably involving SEPA payment products and processes.
  • Knowledge of SEPA payment flows, schemes, and related banking processes.
  • Experience with SEPA Direct Debit is a strong advantage.
  • Experience within banking or financial services.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing a product backlog.
  • Proven experience working with multidisciplinary teams in Agile and Scrum environments.

Product & Business Skills

  • Strong product ownership, requirements-gathering, and backlog-management skills.
  • Ability to define a clear product vision and translate business needs into user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and workshop-facilitation skills.
  • Good understanding of Agile methodologies and Scrum practices.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
  • Understanding of payment processes and the regulatory environment within banking.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills.

Soft Skills

  • Analytical, structured, and solution-oriented.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proactive and comfortable taking ownership.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with business and technical teams.

Languages

  • Professional proficiency in English is required.
  • Professional proficiency in Dutch or French is required.
  • Proficiency in all three languages is a strong advantage.

 

Working Model

  • This is a hybrid consulting role based in Belgium.
  • On-site presence in Brussels will be required depending on client and project needs.
