The Role

As a Product Owner for Underwriting Modules in our growing insurtech organisation, you will lead the development and optimisation of key underwriting functionalities within our insurance platform. You will be responsible for translating complex underwriting requirements into prioritsed, actionable tasks, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that the platform's underwriting modules meet the evolving needs of our clients in the specialty insurance sector.

This role requires a deep understanding of insurance underwriting processes or the ability to learn these, technical capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders while aligning product development with the company’s overall strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting Module Development: Oversee the end-to-end development of underwriting modules, ensuring that these features meet market demands and client requirements.
  • Product Execution: Translate underwriting needs into detailed product requirements, user stories, and development tasks, prioritising based on business value, technical feasibility, and customer impact.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build trust with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including underwriters, product managers, and developers, ensuring clear communication and alignment on product goals and timelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively seek feedback from users and clients to identify opportunities for enhancing underwriting modules. Collaborate with development teams to iterate on the product, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Technical Evaluation: Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate technical solutions and understand constraints. Ensure product decisions align with the technical capabilities and limitations of the platform.
  • Roadmap Influence: Influence the short-term product roadmap by advocating for underwriting module improvements and client-driven enhancements that align with broader company objectives.
  • Management skills: Mentorship to junior Product Owners, guiding them on best practices in product management and ensuring alignment with the overall product vision.
  • Market understanding: Maintain a moderate understanding of the specialty insurance market, staying informed of trends and competitive offerings. Use this insight to guide product development and strategy.

Key Capabilities

  • Risk Tracking: Manage the development of tools and features that allow users to efficiently track and assess underwriting risks.
  • Quote & Bind: Oversee the evolution of the Quote and Bind module, ensuring seamless integration with underwriting processes and client workflows.
  • Integrations: Champion and deliver robust integrations with third parties that expands product capabilities and delivers exceptional customer value.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, preferably within Insurtech, fintech, or specialty insurance sectors.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting processes in insurance, particularly in specialty lines.
  • Experience translating business and underwriting needs into technical requirements and user stories.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with development teams, underwriters, and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to prioritize tasks and make data-driven decisions.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and product development frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing underwriting software or platforms.
  • Background in specialty insurance, such as professional liability, marine, or cyber insurance.
  • Understanding of risk management and regulatory requirements in specialty insurance.
