Join us as a Product Designer

At Checkatrade, we’re building the UK’s go-to home improvement marketplace. Every day, we help millions of homeowners find the right tradesperson for the job - fast, fair, and without the faff.

As our next Product Designer, you’ll take responsibility for the design quality of features from discovery through to implementation. This is a hands-on role for a designer who can manage their own design process and deliver high-quality work within a single squad. You’ll own a feature (or improve an existing one), working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers and Content Designers to deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers and trades. You’ll bring strong craft, clear thinking, and a practical approach to problem-solving - balancing speed and quality while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Forget long lists, here’s what you’ll actually spend your time on:
  • Delivering high-quality design from discovery to implementation within your squad.

  • Owning a feature or improving an existing experience end-to-end.

  • Designing intuitive, accessible flows using our design system and brand guidelines.

  • Creating interactive prototypes to test ideas and validate solutions.

  • Collaborating closely with PMs, Engineers, Researchers and Analysts to frame problems and deliver outcomes.

  • Presenting your work clearly, explaining your thinking and design rationale.

  • Contributing to the evolution of your product area and team ways of working.

It’s not about ticking every box. It’s about turning up curious, ready to crack on. You’ll do well here if you bring:
  • 2–3+ years of experience in product design, shipping real product work within cross-functional teams.

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong interaction and visual design craft.

  • Confidence in managing your own design process from discovery through to delivery.

  • Experience prototyping and gathering user feedback to validate decisions.

  • Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.

  • A collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and openness to feedback.

  • Clear communication skills and confidence presenting your work.

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s just a taste:
  • Competitive salary + annual bonus or commission (role dependent)

  • Employee Share Program

  • Health, well-being and learning support

  • Gym membership, Smart Tech Scheme and Cycle Scheme

  • Birthday/Special day leave

  • Buy & sell holiday scheme

  • 1 week’s paid charity leave and much more

How we’ll get to know each other:
  • Screening call with one of our Talent Acquisition Partners

  • 1st Stage interview with VP, Experience Design

  • 2nd Stage case study panel interview

  • 3rd Stage cross-functional interview

If you require any reasonable adjustments during our interview process, please discuss them with your Talent Acquisition Partner.

If this sounds like the place where you can do your best work, we’d love to hear from you - even if you don’t tick every box.

Boasting one of the most recognized fintech ecosystems in Europe, attracting billions in investments each year, London's success has made it a go-to destination for startups looking to make their mark. Top U.K. companies like Hoptin, Moneybox and Marshmallow have already made the city their base — yet fintech is just the beginning. From healthtech to renewable energy to cybersecurity and beyond, the city's startups are breaking new ground across a range of industries.
