Job Title: Product Control Intern

Duration: 1 year placement

Location: London

Working in product control is a great chance to learn about the hedge fund industry, as this person would be working directly with traders from across the globe and across product lines. The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in macroeconomics. The role is fast-paced, with every day bringing new challenges and queries from Portfolio Managers requiring quick thinking and decisive action. The ideal candidate would have experience with process change, be assertive, and able to take initiative. We will teach you everything you need to know for this role, but a thirst for knowledge and a desire to add value are key to succeeding in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with reconciliation between accounting and trading systems.
  • Assist the team on ad hoc queries from traders, other teams, and senior management.
  • Work on process improvements and other long-term projects to gain efficiency in other aspects of the role.
  • Work with other departments, such as Risk and Operations, to ensure resolutions to traders’ issues or P&L errors.
  • Produce daily pricing files for various products.
  • Learn about various products, how they behave, and the reasons for their trading.

Requirements:

  • Strong work ethic with proven work experience; previous experience in a corporate environment preferred.
  • Experience of process change, whether in academics or in a previous role.
  • Strong Excel abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Desire to learn about Verition, trading, and how macroeconomic news moves markets.
  • Desired but not required: Python or SQL skills, statistics knowledge, involvement in university finance or investing society.
