Job Description

Your mission: 

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the World’s first platform to offer true international multi-currency accounts.

Your mission is to scale and enhance how we manage, monitor, and identify opportunities for improvement in our FinCrime risk profile while keeping in mind a customer centric approach. Driven by a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and regulators’ expectations.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the EU Product Compliance and Risk team, in the first line: 

Developing of the 1LoD FinCrime Risk Monitoring Framework

  • Further develop the FinCrime monitoring tailored to Wise Europe's products, customer segments, EEA market presence, aligning with regulatory expectations and allowing to identify risk and efficiency trends. 

  • Perform root cause analyses on risk and efficiency trends, and recommend control or efficiency improvements, and ensure implementation, that align with regulations, regulator expectations and are customer-centric.

Issue Management and Project Reporting

  • Track FinCrime activities at the Wise group level, such as AML/CTF control developments, and identify impact on- or ensure appropriateness for the Wise EU license.

  • Ensure FinCrime issues are tracked for the EU entity are well-documented, and accurately reflected in reports.

  • Ensure issues are accurately prioritized, resolved efficiently, and followed up on until closure. Provide pragmatic advice to product teams to guide them effectively in resolving these.

Reporting to Committees

  • Present monitoring outcomes and updates to relevant committees on both EU and group level, including executive management, the regulator, and the Board, as appropriate.

  • Provide detailed updates on remediation programs or issue resolution statuses to keep leadership informed and enable appropriate decision-making.

Regulatory Inquiry Oversight and Response Management

  • Handle regulatory inquiries on Wise’s FinCrime framework in general, conducting deep-dives on specific cases and delivering high-quality responses.

  • Explain the functionality of controls and the overall FinCrime framework (strategy) in a manner that stands up to regulatory scrutiny. 


This role will give you the opportunity to: 

  • Steer the design of the first line FinCrime monitoring framework for Wise Europe;

  • Keep compliance right at the heart of the product development cycle, in a fast-moving environment; and

  • Be empowered to identify identify FinCrime problems, areas or improvement opportunities and take a lead in the solution design and implementation

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Belgian and/or European AML/CTF regulations and National Bank of Belgium (NBB) guidance, including AMLD4 and related directives, as well as the EBA Guidelines on AML/CTF.

  • Analytical thinking and comfortable using BI tools such as Looker.

  • Proven track record in establishing and implementing effective AML/CTF monitoring frameworks.

  • Ability to collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers and Operational teams, providing practical recommendations and steering priorities by influencing product teams with qualitative and quantitative arguments.

  • Excellent communication, project coordination, and management skills.

  • Problem-solving mindset, with experience (or strong interest) in working in a fast-paced, growing environment and directly with product teams.

  • Willingness to travel, as Wise offices are located across multiple countries.

  • Legally authorized to work in the EU (Belgium).
