The Standardisation Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation and quality of standardisation activities which equip associates and teachers to undertake Marking and Post-results Reviews. Our Coordinators are key to the delivery of Standardisation which is the process that ensures quality and consistency of Marking and Moderation. Standardisation is key in maintaining the parity and confidence in Learners results and ensuring we maintain the expectations of teachers and students who rely on us.Standardisation Coordinators lead on and specialise in their process to ensure we are constantly improving and refining as well as adapting to a changing technological and educational landscape. This role is responsible for adherence with the conditions which form part of our regulatory framework, and compliance with our regulator. As a team, Standardisation owns the relationship with associates at a key time for building trust; we engage positively with associates and demonstrate the values that underpin the trust that our customers place in AQA.Landscape:
The Standardisation Team sits within the Standardisation, Marking and Moderation area of the larger Chief Operating Office; which is responsible for managing the development, marking and grading of 3.8 million candidates' examinations across A-Level, GCSE, and other qualifications. We are a cross-site team of around 32 staff with representation in Manchester, Milton Keynes, and Guildford.
The Standardisation Coordinator role is a specialist role which reports into the Standardisation management team. The role holder will work closely and collaborate with colleagues in Associate Management, Logistics, Assessment, Marking, and Post-results.
Activities:
Planning, ensuring adequate resource to cover key processes, and delivering key activities to plan across the academic year.
Oversee the facilitation of both remote and in-person standardisation events designed to familiarise and guide examiners and moderators on the use of the mark scheme or assessment criteria to determine an appropriate mark, and to qualify the marker’s performance ensuring that marks are always awarded on the same basis as intended.
Design and implement the delivery of new processes, in response to reform and technological changes.
Self-motivate and independently manage tasks to effectively drive processes forward, ensuring timely and efficient completion of work.
Implementing and embedding a culture of continuous improvement across the team and your work, to drive quality, customer experience and satisfaction levels; removing waste to achieve cost efficiencies.
Use and develop relevant systems, reports and trackers to plan and record delivery for your process to meet delivery targets. Clearly identifying milestones, dependencies, and handovers to ensure visibility for the wider organisation.
Responsible for identification and management of risks, handling escalations, resolving issues and making informed decisions.
Planning, developing and delivering process specific training to permanent and seasonal staff, enabling them to effectively support events and associate enquiries.
Build strong relationships with our external suppliers, internal teams, and our associates in order to deliver a best-in-class service that meets our customers’ needs.
Work with internal customers and senior associates to understand the requirements for each subject we support, and ensure this is delivered effectively.
Use technology to innovate and increase operational capabilities to support the delivery of impactful standardisation events.
Represent the Standardisation team by actively engaging in stakeholder meetings and contributing to discussions to influence the decision-making process to ensure our needs are effectively represented and that optimal outcomes are achieved.
To be successful in this role, you will need to know:
How to exemplify the behaviours, values and leadership habits we wish AQA to be famous for, and to inspire seasonal staff and team members through consistently demonstrating these behaviours internally and externally.
Understanding of Continuous improvement models and practices and how best to apply these to develop and improve processes.
How to effectively matrix manage to drive engagement and performance without direct line management responsibility.
How to work flexibly and adapt leadership style to get the best performance from team members.
You will need an understanding of relevant supply chain methodologies and best practice as well as a broad understanding of the political, educational and business context within which AQA works.
To have experience of managing operational projects and processes within a time sensitive and regulated environment.
Be capable of implementing and embedding change.
How to develop robust, effective departmental plans and support team members to achieve them.
Demonstrates commercial flexibility by undertaking other responsibilities which are of a commensurate level as business needs change.
