London or York or Lisbon – Hybrid working (Circa 2 days in the office per week)

The Role

Process Excellence will play a critical role in enabling Hiscox to drive forward its operational maturity agenda – reducing inefficiency and driving scalability, improving customer and employee satisfaction, and driving greater control. Process Excellence is a core capability for the organisation in the coming years and, as a result, a new Enterprise Process Excellence (EPX) function is being established at the Group level to drive forward this agenda, as part of the Group Operations and Change area.

The EXP Foundations Lead will

  • Work with the Head of Process Excellence to establish the core foundations of methodology, standards and tooling are defined and shared.
  • Analyse and roll out the best practices in place across Hiscox globally along with the defining and communicating the approaches and tools to enhance the operational maturity of Hiscox.
  • Lead and support the training and coaching of process excellence teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Should capacity permit, deliver process improvement initiatives within in Business Unit or Group Function in an efficient and effective manner.

There will be the need as part of the Group Process Excellence team to be hands on and where capacity permits be part of the team that delivers process excellence projects to support in areas where this capability does not exist today and be involved in the day to day building of the process excellence skill set.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop core enterprise foundations; method, tooling, governance, model and capabilities
  • Evaluate, select, and implement tools and technologies that align with process excellence goals
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure tools meet process excellence user requirements
  • Design and deliver training programs on process excellence methodology and tools to raise awareness and capability
  • Create and maintain documentation of the methods and tools with pragmatic user guidelines
  • Manage the selection of required tooling and technology, working closely with Group IT
  • Provide guidance and support to process excellence teams and champions across the organisation
  • Where capacity allows, lead the implementation of process improvements for some areas where agreed with the Business Units and Group Functions.
  • Through the above, promote and embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring process expertise, analytical skills, execution capability, leadership, passion and collaboration to drive positive change within the process community and the broader organisation. They will likely come from an operations or process excellence background with a successful track record in designing and developing core enterprise foundations; methods, tooling and capabilities and have experience in selecting and implementing process excellence tools

Some key attributes we are looking for include:

  • Degree in a related field or certified Lean Six Sigma (ideally Black Belt but would consider Green).
  • 5 – 10 years of experience in process improvement or operational excellence roles. Those with less years but the right level of knowledge will naturally be considered.
  • Experience of building a process excellence capability and key foundations (method, tools, vendor mgmt.)
  • Proficient in using process excellence and automation technology, tools and software e.g. process mapping, mining, analysis, robotics and intelligent automation, workflow orchestration, AI etc
  • Experience of operating in an international matrix environment and a grasp of insurance and/or financial services is ideal.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Experience of leading and delivering successful process excellence projects

You should be an operational and delivery focus individual who looks for the right business and commercial solutions, uses data to inform decisions, eager to bring a clear ‘outside in’ view and keep abreast of developments externally to challenge the Group Function and Business Unit teams.

About Hiscox

As an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

Diversity and Hybrid working

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job and we’re committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success. We have also learned over the past few years that working life doesn’t always have to be in the office, and now it is safe to do so we have introduced hybrid working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work-life balance. We see it as the best of both worlds; structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
