We’re reinventing payments.
In less than four years, Dojo disrupted the market to become the largest and most loved acquirer in the UK. Our payments infrastructure, purpose-built for in-person commerce, is game changing.

Now, over 150,000 customers across four countries choose to transact billions with us every year.
But we’re just getting started.

Our people are the driving force behind our success. They are our greatest investment and our ultimate competitive advantage. We hire exceptional people and give them the autonomy, trust, and ownership to thrive. The results take care of themselves.

The Role

We are looking for a smart, ambitious, driven Privacy Counsel or Privacy Manager (depending on experience and qualification) to assist with a broad range of legal and compliance matters relating to data and privacy at Dojo.

You will need to hit the ground running from the start, so we are looking for self-starters who relish that kind of challenge and enjoy a fast paced environment.

You will be a key member of our group Legal and Compliance team, reporting directly into our Senior Legal Counsel and DPO and supporting the business in the UK and EU.

What you will do…

  • Provide end-to-end privacy compliance and enablement support to various teams, including product, customer service, revenue, people, data and security.
  • Advise on data protection impact assessments and novel uses of personal data and other data sets. A key part of the role will be to support our product teams in the commercialisation of our data sets.
  • Support to mature and scale our existing processes relating to data subject rights and law enforcement requests for data.
  • Maintain our policies and procedures relating to data and privacy, including the record of processing activities and retention schedule.
  • Review and negotiate data protection agreements and standard contractual clauses and related matters relating to international data transfers.
  • Work closely with our EU-based team to support our compliance with data protection law in the EU and various in-market compliance activities (including direct marketing).
  • Work on adjacent compliance activities, including AI governance.

What you will bring…

  • If a qualified lawyer (2-4 years PQE as a guide) with depth and breadth of experience in data and privacy matters, gained in private practice from a top law firm, ideally with some in-house or in-house-secondment experience as well.
  • If a privacy professional (with relevant IAPP qualifications), equivalent experience to the above gained in a technology or financial services business, ideally with some prior experience in a consultancy.
  • A pragmatic approach to the application of data and privacy law is essential - you will recognise that the application of this area of law is inherently risk-based and want to support our business in making decisions within its risk tolerance.
  • Interest in both the operationalisation of data and privacy law and its theoretical application.
  • Previous experience advising on adjacent areas of law such as the regulation of artificial intelligence would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Interest in working with an e-money and payments business; ideally one focused on merchant acquiring, and an enthusiasm for innovation in technology.
  • A team player with great people skills and a good sense of humour who can effectively and efficiently collaborate, building relationships with colleagues throughout the business.
  • An analytical mind able to “see” the complexities of data and privacy matters but then simplify issues for others.
  • A pragmatic, commercial and creative approach to problem solving and decision-making.
  • Highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.

Dojo home and away

We believe our best work happens when we collaborate in-person. These “together days” foster communication, drive innovation and spark our brightest ideas.

That's why we have an office-first culture. This means working from the office 4+ days per week.

With offices across Europe, we know a thing or two about staying dynamic. Need deep focus? Head to a quiet zone. Big ideas? Collaboration spaces have you covered. Just here for a catch-up? Our social hubs make it easy. Do work that counts, in spaces made for you.

Question: what’s curious, relentless, and customer obsessed?

If you’re keen to know the answer, you’re a third of the way to meeting our Dojo values.

If the following speak to you, let’s talk:

  • You’re curious. You have a real desire to learn and create.
  • You’re relentless. You keep going even when it’s easier not to.
  • You’re customer-obsessed. You know how important customers are to what you do.
