Job Description

Are you a visionary designer who thrives on solving complex design challenges and is passionate about advocating for the user while aligning with business objectives?

We’re looking for an exceptional Principal UX Designer to lead and elevate our user experience design efforts.

As a senior individual contributor, you’ll shape product experiences through user-centred design practices, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive innovation to create intuitive, impactful, and visually compelling solutions.

The Principal UX Designer is a key role within Brambles Digital intended to help establish and execute a unified design strategy for Brambles Smart Asset Solution (BSAS), bridging future thinking and long-term innovation with day-to-day tactical design needs.

This role is key to ensure user centred design thinking and promote UX best practice across multidisciplinary teams and the Asset Digitization leadership.

Key Accountabilities

UX Strategy and Execution

  • Define and execute user experience strategies across key projects.
  • Lead the conceptualisation and creation of end-to-end design solutions that are scalable and user-focused.

Research and Insights

  • Partner with researchers and stakeholders to conduct user research and translate insights into actionable design opportunities.
  • Analyse and incorporate data, user feedback, and business requirements into design solutions.

Design Excellence

  • Develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and other UX artifacts.
  • Craft accessible, responsive, and visually consistent designs adhering to established guidelines or creating new design systems as needed.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other designers to deliver seamless user experiences.
  • Advocate for UX best practices, championing the importance of design throughout the organisation.

Mentorship and Leadership

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to mid-level and junior designers, fostering a culture of design excellence.
  • Lead design critiques and contribute to the development of team processes and standards.

Innovation and Problem Solving

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, tools, and methodologies to propose and implement innovative design solutions.
  • Tackle complex design challenges with a problem-solving mindset and creativity.

Experience

  • 8+ years of professional UX design experience, with a significant portfolio of shipped products demonstrating your expertise.
  • Mastery of design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Axure, Adobe XD).
  • Strong understanding of design systems, information architecture, and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
  • Proficiency in creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Strong user empathy and a passion for solving user problems.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to articulate design decisions and their rationale.
  • A collaborative attitude and exceptional communication skills.

Skills and Knowledge

Collaboration and Communication

  • Strong facilitation skills for design workshops, brainstorming sessions, and design critiques.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and researchers.

User-Centred Design Expertise

  • Strong grasp of user research methods: usability testing, user interviews, A/B testing, personas, etc.
  • Proficiency in crafting user journeys, user flows, and information architecture.
  • Expertise in applying human-centered design principles to solve complex user problems.

Advanced Design Proficiency

  • Mastery of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar software.
  • Ability to create polished high-fidelity prototypes and mockups.
  • Skilled in interaction design with an understanding of motion, transitions, and feedback loops.

Strategic Thinking

  • Ability to align design efforts with business objectives and user needs.
  • Experience in developing and implementing design strategies across products or services.
  • Insight into identifying opportunities for innovation and driving future-focused design initiatives.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

  • Strong knowledge of WCAG standards and ability to design accessible products.
  • Experience creating inclusive designs for diverse user groups with varying abilities.

Emotional Intelligence

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to embrace change and experiment with new methods or tools.
  • Curiosity: A natural desire to learn about users, team members, and emerging trends.
  • Confidence with Humility: Strong belief in their expertise without dismissing other perspectives.
  • Patience: Willingness to work through challenges, feedback loops, and iterative processes.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: Ideally degree educated or equivalent industry experience.

Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields (or equivalent practical experience).
