Principal Solutions Strategist | Ocado Intelligent Automation | Hatfield | Flexible Hybrid Working

Ocado OIA (Ocado Intelligent Automation) is a division within Ocado Technology that focuses on developing advanced automation and robotics systems for Ocado's smart warehouses and fulfilment centres. This unit works on creating solutions that enable the automation of various logistical tasks, including order picking, packing, and inventory management, often using robotics, AI, and machine learning to optimise these processes.

OIA’s technology is integral to Ocado's strategy of licensing its logistics and fulfilment solutions to other retailers worldwide, helping them build automated, efficient, and scalable online grocery operations.

About the role: Are you ready to lead the charge in revolutionising the future of automation?

We are looking for a visionary leader with deep expertise in automation and supply chain innovation who can be the voice of the market, guiding our product teams and helping us identify opportunities to excel in our target markets. This is your chance to make a significant impact in a dynamic and rapidly growing organisation.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of eCommerce and store replenishment supply chains, including existing processes and automated systems in sectors such as pharma, apparel, consumer packaged goods (CPG), and general merchandise.
  • Identify business challenges faced by distributors and propose innovative solutions that deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Analyse and articulate the competitive landscape, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of Ocado Intelligent Automation (OIA) propositions, with technical and commercial insights.
  • Define what success looks like for non-grocery propositions and subproducts, detailing functionality, documentation, and cost requirements.
  • Evaluate the value of OIA product development initiatives, including their economic benefits, and contribute to the creation of robust business cases.
  • Collaborate with teams to design compelling automated warehouse solutions for key market segments and sales channels.
  • Support the prioritisation of development work and contribute to the short- and long-term non-grocery product roadmaps.
  • Analyse and report on market trends and data to ensure our propositions remain relevant over time.
  • Work with the Commercial team to establish effective commercial models for new products.
  • Lead key strategic projects, such as acquisitions or new ventures, as sponsored by OIA senior leadership.

About you:

  • Extensive experience in warehouse automation, ideally in commercial roles at automation vendors or systems integrators (e.g., strategy, sales, product management, or solutions design). Experience working in a consulting environment would be an added advantage.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with all levels of an organisation, articulate a clear vision, and use data to tell compelling stories.
  • A creative problem-solver with intellectual curiosity and a critical mindset.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex data and conduct research and modelling to inform decision-making.
  • A proactive and results-oriented approach, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) and the ability to build trusting relationships with stakeholders.
  • Skilled at managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on commitments autonomously, with excellent planning and organisational skills.

What do I get in return:

  • Hybrid working (2 days in the office)
  • 30 days work from anywhere globally
  • Remote working for the month of August
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 27 days after 5 years service (plus optional holiday purchase)
  • Pension scheme (various options available including employer contribution matching up to 7%)
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • 22 weeks paid maternity leave and 6 weeks paid paternity leave (once relevant service requirements complete)
  • Train Ticket loan (interest-free)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Opportunity to participate in Share save and Buy as You Earn share schemes
  • 15% discount on Ocado.com and free delivery for all employees
  • Income Protection (can be up to 50% of salary for 3 years) and Life Assurance(3 x annual salary)
  • Free shuttle bus to and from Hatfield train station
