Principal Solution Architect

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Solution Architect with deep expertise in IT Architecture, AWS Cloud Technologies, and data platform implementation. The ideal candidate will have strong networking knowledge and hands-on experience designing and developing scalable data platforms. This role requires leadership skills, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive the development of a new global data platform.

Key Responsibilities


Architectural Design in cloud based environments:

  • Develop and implement robust IT architecture strategies for cloud and hybrid environments, leveraging AWS best practices.
  • Design scalable, secure, and high-availability solutions tailored to business needs.
  • Architect and optimize data platforms to enable efficient data collection, storage, and processing.
  • Implement and manage cloud-native services, including compute, storage, databases (SQL & NoSQL), and serverless architectures.
  • Ensure cost-efficient and optimized cloud usage.

Networking Focus:

  • Design and implement secure networking solutions using AWS networking services such as VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Route 53, and CloudFront.
  • Configure and troubleshoot complex networking scenarios, including hybrid cloud setups.
  • Manage network performance and security standards, including SLAs, bandwidth, latency, and IPSec VPN configurations.

Data Platform Implementation:

  • Lead the design and development of a new global data platform (PaaS)
  • Ensure scalable storage solutions (data lakes, data warehouses) to handle structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement ETL/ELT pipelines using Dagster, Airflow, or similar tools.
  • Optimize performance and scalability for large data volumes.
  • Govern data security, compliance, and access controls.

Development & DevOps:

  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Python.
  • Knowledge of Event-Driven Architectures (Kafka).
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible.
  • Implement and manage monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog.
  • Ensure real-time logging, alerting, and troubleshooting capabilities.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with business units, developers, and IT teams to understand requirements and translate them into actionable solutions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor for IT infrastructure, networking, and data platform strategies.
  • Act as a point of contact for integration with other teams.

Security & Compliance:

  • Implement security best practices, including IAM, data encryption, and secure API design.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Lead technical teams and collaborate across different software project areas.
  • Provide training and mentorship to more junior team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills for stakeholder interaction and documentation.

Key Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in IT Architecture, with at least 5 years specializing in AWS Cloud Technologies.
  • Experience in building and managing data platforms with expertise in data storage, processing, and governance.
  • Proven experience with networking technologies, including configuring VPNs, managing DNS, and optimizing network performance.
  • AWS certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional) or AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, DNS) and security principles.
  • Expertise in infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex systems and design efficient solutions.

Technical Skills

  • AWS Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional) is a plus.
  • AWS Cloud Services: EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, etc.
  • Networking Tools: AWS Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, Route 53, and other relevant tools.
  • Security Best Practices: IAM, MFA, data encryption, firewall configurations.
  • Programming/Scripting: Python, Terraform, or similar languages.
  • Event-Driven Architectures: Kafka.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Datadog, ELK Stack, Prometheus, etc.
  • Experience in agile methodologies and DevOps practices.

Location:

  • Hybrid. Office located in London. (Hayes area).
  • Office presence required: Yes.
  • Frequency: 2-3 times a week at the office.
