AtkinsRéalis are looking for a Principal Pavement Engineers to join our growing Pavement Consultancy team within the Asset Management Practice.  Our team is involved in a wide range of projects around the world, designing highways, airports, ports and industrial pavements, and in a variety of research projects developing new materials and technologies to improve design life and sustainability. Our Clients include National Highways, Transport Scotland, Welsh Government, local authorities and airport/port operators across the UK.
You will be working with the team on all kinds of projects that are creating safer, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for our clients. Recent projects include A2 Bean to Ebbsfleet, M25 J10, and the A19 Norton to Wynard. Our team are also leading national research such as the development net zero asphalt surfacing for National Highways.
The primary focus of the role will be the technical delivery of a range of pavement engineering and research related projects. The role will require the successful applicant to lead projects, therefore proven skills, and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently will be required.
Roles are available at several locations, including Birmingham, Nottingham, Cambridge and Chelmsford.
Your purpose:

  • Project management and technical delivery of a variety of consultancy projects and work packages in the field of pavement engineering. Act as a technical lead for strategic projects including the development of the design strategy and pavement options to suit varying budgetary scenarios for both new construction and maintenance works.
  • Ensuring project deliverables are prepared on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards. Enhancing client and industry relationships with both number of public and private stakeholders. Promote pavement and asset management within AtkinsRéalis.
  • Developing the talent within the team through coaching and mentoring and supporting their technical career development aspirations. Complying with and championing company processes and policies, and ensuring adherence to safety, welfare, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • Certified Pavement Engineer. Extensive knowledge and understanding of pavement design principles (Flexible, Rigid and Composite Pavements). Extensive knowledge and understanding of earthworks and pavement materials (Concrete, Asphalt and Hydraulically Bound Materials).
  • Experience in the use of UK and/or international standards for the design of pavements for highway, airfield, port, and other applications. Knowledge of construction techniques and practices for new construction and maintenance works, including recycling.
  • Experience in specification, execution, analysis, and interpretation of a comprehensive range of geotechnical and pavement investigation and evaluation techniques. Experience in managing and delivering projects and meeting client expectations. Ability to work in a client facing environment, with good communication skills.
