As Principal Legal Counsel - Digital and Tech you will be a strategic partner to senior leaders across D&T, Global Functions, Procurement, and Group Legal to implement and accelerate the D&T strategic plan. Working at the heart of a globally matrixed organisation, you will advise across a broad range of technology related legal issues- translating legal risk into pragmatic, operational solutions that enable the business to move with pace and confidence. 

You will be a trusted advisor, with a seat at the table with our senior leaders, where you will provide genuine strategic impact by turning complex legal considerations into practical solutions that drive progress and unlock value with pace.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner cross-functionally, working closely with senior leadership in Digital and Tech (“D&T”), Global Functions, Procurement and across Group Legal to implement and unlock the D&T strategic plan. 
  • Leverages strong relationships with business to act strategically, managing such issues and opportunities.  Becomes known for valuable strategic partnership- not just within legal but beyond.
  • Excellent influencing skills.
  • Develops departmental plans to support the execution and operation of the strategic plan.   
  • Drives performance across the team and acts as a role model to embed a performance driven culture.
  • Leads and mentors team members.

Operational Execution

  • Strong ability to successfully operate within the context of a matrix organised multi-national, and navigate the breadth of relevant legal issues including those relating to personal data, RAI, contracting, marketing, supply etc. 
  • Lead critical enablers in Cyber, Data and AI ensuring enterprise safety, governance and scalable adoption.
  • Strategically partner with senior leaders across D&T and Cyber on the following: lifecycle governance of tech vendors, driving data governance accountability and ensuring enterprise safety.
  • Strategically advise High Risk Functions to manage personal data risks, evolving their DPIA frameworks upfront to enable the execution of Data strategies at pace and safely.  Able to advise across breadth of DP considerations across key High Risk Functions including Marketing, Clinical, HR, Cyber.
  • Support the execution of new digital routes to market- DComm- where you will bring together not only your understanding of D&T, but how to leverage DComm to serve our consumers, generating new revenue opportunities in Market and meaningful consumer insights and engagement.
  • You will help drive D&T, Privacy, AI and DComm capability within Market Legal Teams.
  • Be comfortable and thrive in operating in the unknown. 

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrable experience in managing breadth of legal issues, particularly those issues which relate to D&T- Data Protection, AI, contracting etc; as well as those relating to DComm
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills.  Ability to communicate effectively and influence the key stakeholders across Haleon
  • Significant experience advising in-house ideally in ideally in consumer healthcare, CPG or retail 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Pragmatic, business-orientated mindset
  • Can act independently, anticipates issues and opportunities. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Experience in supporting Regulatory investigations
  • Significant Post Qualification Experience

Qualifications required:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister, preferably with a professional qualification in privacy or data protection.
  • Ideally at least 10+ PQE/ demonstrated experience operating at a senior level, with expertise aligned to the requirements of this role
