We're hiring a Senior/Principal Engineer to focus on building and scaling AI-driven development capabilities across the organisation.
This role is positioned to support a growing number of projects, helping move from early AI "lighthouse" initiatives into more standardised, scalable, and production-ready approached. The focus is not just on building systems, but on shaping how engineering teams develop, test, and deploy software using modern AI tooling and practices. This is a 50/50 role between hands-on engineering and defining best practices, with a strong emphasis on end-to-end ownership.
Please note: the successful candidate will be required to go to our customers Central London office 2 days per week.
Key responsibilities & duties include:
- Help define and scale AI-driven development practices across engineering teams
- Support the transition from early-stage AI initiatives into broader, production-ready adoption
- Partner with the Senior Engineer and SRE Lead to establish best practices, standards, and ways of working
- Contribute hands-on to building end-to-end, deployable services using modern tooling and frameworks
- Improve how teams approach automated testing, code generation and deployment through AI capabilities
- Work across multiple projects, providing both delivery support and technical direction
- Act as a point of guidance for teams adopting new tools, patterns and workflows
- Drive consistency in engineering practices, particularly around how services are built and shaped
- Contribute to architectural decisions, ensuring solutions are scalable and practical
- Support overall developer experience improvements through better tooling, automation and processes
Required skills
- Experience working on or enabling AI-led development (e.g. LLM services, code generation, AI-assisted workflows)
- Strong software engineering background with experience building and shaping production systems
- Ability to operate across both hands-on delivery and technical direction
- Experience working across multiple teams or projects, influencing engineering practices
- Strong understanding of modern development practices (testing, CI/CD, automation, deployable services)
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or Node within Linux-based environments
- Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS preferred)
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work end-to-end across the development lifecycle
- Comfortable operating at a Senior/near-Principal level, contributing to technical direction and standards
Desirable skills
- Knowledge of CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitHub Actions)
- Familiarity with container-build optimisation and image lifecycle management
- Knowledge of distributed system design, high-availability patterns and event-driven architecture
- Experience working in an SRE or Platform Engineering function
