Job Description

Job Title: Principal Engineer (Intrinsic Safety) 
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Buxton 
Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (flexible) -  Hybrid
Salary: Competitive + benefits
Industry: Testing, Inspection & Certification (TIC) / Hazardous Area Certification

Overview of the role:
We’re looking for an experienced  Principal Engineer (Intrinsic Safety) specialist to support and lead certification activities within a high-performing engineering team. This is a key role combining technical expertise, team support, and project ownership—helping ensure safe, compliant equipment for use in explosive atmospheres while driving performance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver ATEX, UKEx and IECEx certification activities in line with ISO 17025 and ISO 17065
  • Act as a technical authority, providing guidance to clients and internal teams on certification requirements
  • Support the Engineering Manager with team performance, utilisation targets, and project delivery (time, cost, scope)
  • Drive continuous improvement across certification processes to enhance efficiency and client value
  • Develop quotations, review certifications, and build strong client and stakeholder relationships

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Driving Licence for use in the UK
  • Degree in Electronics
  • ATEX, UKEx and IECEx certification  experience.

 

Desirable

  • ·Supervision of Engineers 
  • Target setting and measurement
