Ready to make an impact from day one?
The Role
Join us to shape the future of software in the underserved and high-impact HR technology industry. Your work will have a direct and tangible impact on customers, offering ownership and the chance to make a meaningful difference. As we prepare for significant growth, you'll face exciting challenges and have the opportunity to influence our path toward becoming one of the world's leading tech companies.
In this role as a Principal Frontend Engineer, you will hold a uniquely impactful position working across the Personio website. This role is not attached to any one product area but is ultimately responsible for the overall delivery of features, improvement of performance, and refinement of craft for the entirety of the web frontend. You will have the opportunity to go both deep and broad, focusing on the most challenging and important priorities that directly benefit our users.
What You'll Do
You will have one of the most impactful engineering roles at the company, being the standard bearer for frontend excellence and directly driving impactful initiatives for our users.
- Be the architect: Develop, guide, and own an ambitious strategy for our React Monorepo that balances new functionality and long-term reliability
- Mentorship & influence: Directly coach Lead and Staff engineers and be a technical role model for frontend engineers across the company
- Ship Impact: Be ready to dig into the code wherever is needed to unblock and deliver progress.
- Launches and Landings: You will hold the craft bar, finding solutions to support a high velocity without sacrificing great quality user experience
- Bridge leadership and developers: You will work across team boundaries and directly with senior leadership (including VPs and the CTO), bringing a solution-oriented mindset to objectives and challenges across the product
What You'll Need to Succeed
- 10+ years of experience building and designing scalable and performant frontend systems. You understand what's required to bring a complex product to fruition, from the needs of the individual contributors to the overall architecture and design patterns.
- Proven track record of senior technical leadership, mentoring engineers (junior through staff), and hiring.
- You manage stakeholders at multiple levels, from ICs to Senior Management, and can align business requirements with technical roadmaps
- You have mastery working with TypeScript codebases (NodeJS services, React frontends) and are unafraid to dig into the weeds
- Bonus points for experience with any of Nx, GraphQL, Kotlin microservices, AWS, Sentry, Datadog, Kafka, and full stack development
- Experience playing both the architect and code machine archetypes. This role isn't just meetings and documents but also getting hands-on and directly working with frontend ICs.
- Reducing technical complexity and finding elegant solutions between competing priorities and technical debt is your bread and butter. You have experience handling negotiations between team boundaries and developing solutions where others couldn't.
- You see change as an opportunity to develop the business and leverage strategy and past experiences to deal with ambiguity and complexity
- You create a motivating and collaborative environment where your team sets and achieves challenging developmental and business goals
- You have excellent written and spoken English (level C1/C2 on the CEFR scale)
- We are experiencing rapid growth and are "building our plane while flying it" so bring your agile mindset to the table!
- You embrace feedback - no one is perfect, neither are we. Let's make this an opportunity to praise and learn from each other.
