Location: Toronto (Onsite/ Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time

Salary Range:$185–$210k CAD per year (negotiable)

About Fulfillment IQ (FIQ):

Fulfillment IQ is a supply chain engineering and transformation company that helps brands, retailers, and 3PLs design, build, and scale high-performance logistics operations.

We work at the intersection of strategy, operations, and technology where we solve complex, real-world problems across warehouse design, automation, order management, transportation, and end-to-end supply chain execution.

Our teams combine deep domain expertise with strong technical capability, delivering outcomes through consulting, systems implementation, and proprietary platforms that accelerate time-to-value and reduce delivery risk.

If you enjoy working in complex environments, partnering closely with clients, and seeing your work make a tangible impact on how global commerce moves, this is the place where your skills and judgment truly come to life.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Principal Architect to take responsibility for the technical architecture and the long-term development of Fulfillment IQ’s core integration platform.

This is not a feature delivery role. This is a platform ownership role.

You will operate as the senior technical authority responsible for ensuring our integration architecture is scalable, resilient, high-throughput, and cost-efficient as the platform grows.

This role combines strategic architecture leadership, selective hands-on engineering, and cross-functional technical influence. You will set standards, define architectural direction, and ensure that small inefficiencies today do not become large operational and cost problems at scale.

Must Have:

  • 10+ years of experience building cloud-native backend or platform systems
  • Proven experience owning architecture for distributed, high-throughput systems
  • Strong experience with event-driven architectures, APIs, or integration platforms
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred) and performance optimization
  • Experience working with Python-based backend systems and modern cloud architectures
  • Ability to lead through technical influence rather than formal people management.

Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience with iPaaS platforms, middleware systems, or integration-heavy SaaS products
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Azure Event Hub, or similar platforms
  • Exposure to logistics, supply chain, fintech, or data-intensive enterprise systems
  • Experience with MongoDB or distributed data storage systems

Key Responsibilities:

Architecture & Standards

  • Own end-to-end architecture for FIQ's integration platform
  • Design scalable, event-driven and API-based integration patterns
  • Establish architectural standards and "golden path" development practices
  • Define patterns for connectors, transformations, retries, fault tolerance, and observability

Performance & Optimization

  • Identify architectural bottlenecks before they scale
  • Optimize compute, memory, I/O, and cloud infrastructure costs
  • Ensure platform reliability under increasing workloads
  • Lead architectural reviews and enforce design standards

Technical Leadership

  • Act as primary technical gatekeeper for platform decisions
  • Build POCs for complex integrations and architectural patterns
  • Unblock technically complex challenges across teams
  • Translate customer requirements into scalable technical designs

Collaboration

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams
  • Communicate trade-offs, risks, and long-term implications to stakeholders
  • Maintain clear technical documentation

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days:

30 Days In

  • Develop a deep understanding of Fulfillment IQ’s integration platform, architecture, and technical roadmap
  • Build strong working relationships with Engineering, Product, and Infrastructure teams
  • Review current platform design, performance bottlenecks, and architectural risks
  • Identify quick-win optimization opportunities and priority architectural gaps

60 Days In

  • Establish clear architectural standards and platform design guidelines
  • Deliver at least one Proof of Concept or reference implementation for a priority integration challenge
  • Begin improving performance, scalability, or cost efficiency in at least one core platform area
  • Introduce structured architecture review processes

90 Days In

  • Present a forward-looking platform architecture roadmap to leadership
  • Demonstrate measurable improvement in system reliability, performance, or operational efficiency
  • Ensure teams are aligned on platform standards and architectural direction
  • Establish a clear long-term technical vision for the integration platform

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Reduced integration failures and platform incidents
  • Improved throughput and performance under load
  • Adoption of standardized patterns across teams
  • Reduced technical debt and architectural rework
  • Improved resource utilization and cost efficiency
