Job DetailsPricing Manager

Retail Pricing are responsible for developing and delivering Hastings’ street pricing strategy, which drives commercial performance whilst ensuring fair customer outcomes. The team is made up of a diverse range of pricing, data science and analytics experts with experience from multiple industries. We use a mix of advanced machine learning, statistical modelling and analytical techniques to understand customer behaviour and market dynamics, combining it all via mathematical optimisation to set prices for our products that maximise profitability.

Pricing Managers are key individuals in the team, each with responsibility for a specific area of pricing. They lead our pricing analysts and data scientists, managing the regularly deliver optimised street prices, pricing tests and trading activity, as well as contributing to the development of our pricing approach.

Accountabilities

Your remit will include the following:

  • Running our BAU pricing process, delivering new price optimisations and trading changes in consultation with our stakeholders

  • Managing the development of our pricing algorithm, including the introduction of new functionality and pricing tests

  • Reviewing the data, analytical and modelling outputs of your team, to ensure our standards are met; rolling your sleeves up and diving into the code when needed

  • Keeping up to date with the latest thinking and developments in the business, the price comparison market and wider insurance industry; coming up with new ideas for test & learn, to inform and evolve our street pricing strategy

  • Foster a culture of treating customers fairly, ensuring we follow internal governance processes and adhere to regulatory requirements

To achieve this you will need to:

  • Be a fast learner to understand our business, its value drivers and the wider industry context

  • Have a customer focus to both spot profit opportunities and do the right thing

  • Think creatively to solve business problems with data-led insight and approaches

  • Love sharing your ideas and storytelling to engage and enthuse our stakeholders

  • Embrace flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and get the best out of a diverse team

Skills Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in a numerical discipline (e.g. mathematics, sciences, economics)

  • 4+ years working in a pricing or commercially focussed analytical role

  • SQL and experience working with large or complex datasets

  • R/Python/Matlab or coding statistical methods in other languages

  • Mentoring, training or project-based management of junior colleagues

Desirable

  • Insurance industry experience or actuarial qualification (not essential)

  • 1-2 years line management of an analytical team

  • Experience with Radar, Earnix or other specialist pricing software

  • Familiarity with deploying code and models into production environments

  • Working in a regulated industry and familiarity with governance processes
